Alkaline Balance And Your Health

When people think of PH balance, they usually think of their swimming pool, or maybe something from high school chemistry class. Your body has a natural PH balance that is very important to your health and many of us are overly acidic which is a dangerous condition that weakens the immune system and can lead to a variety of health problems.
Our PH balance should be slightly alkaline. A PH of 7 is neutral, and the ideal pH is 7.365. To determine your PH, use pH test strips. To see how well your body is eliminating acids, test your pH first thing in the morning. You should be slightly acidic, perhaps between 6.0 and 6.5. Test again 2 hours later and you should be around 7. That would mean that your body is able to properly eliminate the acids produced by metabolism overnight. To stay on top of your pH, test 2-3 times per week.
Symptoms of being overly acidic, or having acidosis can include:
- Weight gain
- Cancer
- Hormone problems
- Kidney stones
- Skin problems
- Candida
- Joint pain
- Osteoporosis and more
One of the biggest concerns of acidosis in women is bone loss. That is because when we are overly acidic, our body tries to boost our pH by pulling calcium and other alkaline minerals from out of our bones. Over an extended amount of time this can greatly weaken the bones.
To boost your PH it is important to follow an alkaline diet. This will consist of eating lots of green vegetables, cutting back on meats, and reducing your sugar intake.
There are also some supplements that can really help. Adding pH Drops to your water is an easy way to flush out the acids and restore your alkaline balance. Green drinks can be made in the kitchen, or be mixed with water from a powdered green drink mix. Adding minerals to the diet is also a good idea. A good calcium/magnesium supplement can boost your pH and will help to restore the calcium that may have been lost in your bones from times of being overly acidic.
It is also important to take digestive enzymes. Supplementing enzymes will help to increase your body’s ability to absorb nutrients and will help to better metabolize wastes for removal from the body.
