Not All Takeaways Pile On The Pounds

Obviously choosing something like a vegetable curry will be more healthy than something greasy and wrapped in batter. It’s all simply knowing what’s good and what’s bad for you, then you will be able to be healthy while enjoying a meal treat.

Hopefully here are a few tips for choosing the best and the worst items on the menu, all for a range of takeaways:

Fish and Chips: Although you can’t really avoid them, chips tend to be the worst things at chip shops, as for the others, sausages and pies are the other worst offenders. As for the best things, try to stick to fish, cod, haddock and plaice are the best as they contain the less fat.

Pizza: Your worst choice would be to have a deep pan or stuffed crust as these contain the most fat within the base. As for toppings, try and stay away from extra cheese and pepperoni. If you are looking for something healthier, your best bet would be a thin crust with either vegetable or fish toppings.

Chinese: With Chinese, avoid having anything that has been deep fried, so basically avoid anything greasy and crispy. The items that are worst for you are the sweet and sour battered meat balls, fried rice and finally spring rolls. If you are looking for a more healthy option, go for steamed foods. Items such as crab and corn soup, chicken, beef, boiled rice, or steamed vegetables are the healthiest options.

Indian food, just like Chinese, you should try and keep away from deep fried things and items that are creamy as these will have the most fat. The best ones on the menu would be some sort of vegetable curry, chicken tikka, madras, bhuna. The healthiest item to have with these would be boiled rice.

Hopefully this will make you think twice about you ordering your next large deep pan, stuffed crust, triple cheese, pepperoni pizza. As I was writing that, it made me realise that I order all of the bad items, but it’s the same with all foods you eat. The foods that taste the best are normally the worst for us.

A good takeaway can be ordered online quite easily and could for example be found using a search under ‘takeaway Manchester‘ or ‘Chinese Takeaway Birmingham‘ if that was your preference.
