BP top kill method fails as cleanup workers are hospitalized from vapors

(NaturalNews) BP officials have announced today that the “top kill” effort to stop the Gulf oil leak has failed. Unanticipated problems doomed the project, which involved trying to pump tens of thousands of gallons of mud, shredded rubber tires and other “junk” into the hole to try to halt the outflow of oil. At 6pm Saturday evening, BP officials announced the “top kill” effort had failed and now they were moving on to another plan (more below). I am on site at the Gulf Coast right now, and while I haven’t reached the areas where oil is washing up on the beaches, I’m learning some interesting information nonetheless. In particular, finding a hotel room anywhere near New Orleans has become virtually impossible, as BP has rented out virtually every available hotel room from St. Charles, Louisiana all the way to Pensacola, Florida. (I am currently staying in a fleabag hotel that miraculously has internet access…) But it raises the question: Where are all these people? I haven’t seen a single BP person anywhere, and I was out on some beaches today filming editorial segments for NaturalNews. I did see some small watercraft laying out protective barriers, but I didn’t see any BP people anywhere. I’ll keep you posted on what we find tomorrow as we approach the beaches to the East of New Orleans. Expect more oil for the next 10 weeks Now that the top kill effort has failed, it means oil will keep spewing into the Gulf of Mexico until at least August . That’s when two “pressure release” wells are expected to be completed. The purpose of these two wells is to siphon off the oil from underneath the ocean bed, thereby releasing the pressure that’s currently pushing crude oil out of the existing hole under the doomed Deepwater Horizon rig. This “plan C” effort remains extremely risky, of course. There’s no guarantee it will work at all. And if it fails, this “volcano of oil” could continue to pollute the Earth’s oceans for years . This could, in fact, be the global killer event I warned about in an earlier story about this BP oil spill. (http://www.naturalnews.com/028805_Gulf_of_Mexico_Deepwater_Horizon.html) We could be looking at a global-scale environmental catastrophe that destroys virtually all marine life in the Gulf of Mexico and takes a century to fully recover. It’s really that bad. If they can’t stop this volcano of oil in the next week, we could be looking at the single most destructive environmental catastrophe ever to strike our planet since the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs. Get ready for more chemicals In the mean time, now that the top kill effort has failed, BP has announced it is resuming the spraying of chemical dispersants into the massive oil plumes that remain deep under the surface of the Gulf of Mexico water. This means more chemicals that will kill more forms of marine life throughout the Gulf. But it’s not just aquatic life that’s being threatened by these chemicals: BP workers are increasingly being sent to the hospital complaining of symptoms like vomiting, dizziness, difficult breathing and others. The obvious cause of such symptoms is the huge amount of crude oil bubbling up to the surface (some of which evaporates into the air) along with the massive injection of chemical dispersants into the waters (some of which also evaporates). CNN is reporting that BP claims it is monitoring air quality, but so far BP has not gone public with any air quality test results. None of the cleanup workers have been outfitted with chemical masks that might protect them from the volatile chemicals now present in the Gulf waters. Yet CNN is reporting that the warning label on the chemical product made by NALCO states: “Avoid breathing vapor.” The EPA, meanwhile, remains silent on this whole issue. Remember: It is the EPA that ordered BP to stop using its selected brand of chemical dispersant, but BP utterly ignored the EPA and continues to dump that very same chemical into the Gulf of Mexico right now. A chemical attack on America What we are watching here, folks, is very nearly a chemical attack on America by BP and the oil industry. It’s hard to say what’s worse: The oil or the chemical dispersants. In fact, no one knows the answer to that question, and it can’t even be studied by scientists because the disaster keeps growing by the day. This is one environmental catastrophe that just keeps getting worse, and the cost to the marine ecosystem is incalculable . And that’s not to even mention the economic cost to the region and all the people who depend on life in the Gulf of Mexico for their own livelihoods. Their lives are now being destroyed by this oil drilling catastrophe. If there’s one lesson that comes from all this, it is a reminder of the immense value Mother Nature provides us each and every day at no charge. The VALUE of a healthy ocean is incalculable. And the COST of killing it may be more than what human civilization can bear. I suppose this resolves the whole question of what’s more important: The environment or the economy? As we’re rudely discovering today, the economy cannot exist without protecting the environment first .

Two of the best and greenest reusable food container brands

(NaturalNews) Many health-conscious individuals understand the value in preparing healthy food at home for both themselves and their children. Not only is this practice economical, but it provides a superior option to fast food and school lunchroom fare. In response to this growing trend, many companies have begun to spring up that make reusable eating ware. Plastic bags and containers, which are most commonly used to tote food on-the-go, are now known to leech dangerous chemicals into food. So are there any practical, safe alternatives? In this review, I have evaluated two of the top reusable eating ware brands that are safe, environmentally-friendly, plastic-free and practical. Eco Ditty Eco Ditty makes sandwich and snack bags that are composed of 100 percent organic cotton. The idea was birthed out of the discovery that the founder’s daughter was allergic to PVC plastic and that a suitable alternative was needed. The variety of unique exterior designs are printed with low-impact inks and dyes while the interior liners that come into contact with the food are un-dyed. (Although low-impact dyes are still petroleum-derived, they are the best available alternative to conventional dyes when printing vibrant colors on fabric. Low-impact dyes are commonly used on organic fabric products and are generally considered to be safe and non-toxic.) The neat thing about Eco Ditty’s bags is that they are fully adjustable in size and can be washed in the dishwasher, by hand or in the washing machine. Because they are organic, you do not need to worry about GMO or pesticide contamination, which earned this company the top pick status in this category. To learn more about Eco Ditty, please visit www.ecoditty.com. ECO Lunchbox ECO Lunchbox makes handmade lunch bags, napkins, stainless-steel food containers and sustainable bamboo and steel utensils, all of which can be purchased separately or in a single kit. All the pieces are lead-free, BPA-free, PVC-free and vinyl-free, and there are many different styles from which to choose. Founder Sandra Harris originally developed the products to provide a practical, safe and environmentally-friendly way to pack lunches for her children. The neat thing about the company’s stainless-steel food containers is that even the lids are made from steel, ensuring that food does not come into contact with any plastic. At the same time, they are not 100 percent leak-proof like some other brands that use plastic are, so there is a trade-off involved. However aside from glass which is breakable, stainless-steel seems to be the best option for safe food containers. The products are sustainably-produced, but the only current drawback is the company’s use of non-organic cotton in its napkins. Sandra Harris, founder of ECO Lunchbox, indicated that she is actively working towards bringing in a quality source for organic cotton to be used in the future. Overall, both the company ethic and the product quality are impressive, so ECO Lunchbox earns a top spot for highly recommended reusable eating ware. McDonald’s attacks teen named "McClusky" over trademark infringement

(NaturalNews) McDonald’s has initiated a legal battle against 19-year-old Lauren McClusky over her attempt to trademark the name of a charity festival. McClusky, whose father is radio promoter Jeff McClusky, has held three annual fundraisers for the Chicago chapter of the Special Olympics. The first year, she co-organized the festival with a person whose name also began with the prefix Mc, so they dubbed it McFest. After the third year, McClusky filed to make McFest into a registered trademark. McDonald’s responded by filing against the request. At first, McClusky said, she was “kind of honored” that McDonald’s had even noticed her event. “But when we realized how serious it was, then it just got ridiculous and offensive,” she said. “They just wouldn’t listen.” McDonald’s financially supports the Special Olympics and has stated that it has no intention of interfering with charitable fundraising. “However, the law requires us to guard against third parties that infringe our trademarks and to take the necessary action to stop those infringements,” spokesperson Ashlee Yingling said. “We believe the mark at issue, ‘McFest,’ is similar enough to our brand name and McDonald’s famous family of ‘Mc’ trademarks that it’s likely to cause confusion under trademark standards and/or dilute our valuable trademark rights.” McDonald’s trademarks include McPen, McBuddy, McBurger, McDouble, McFree, McJobs, McLight, McPool, McProduct, McRuler, McShades, McShirt, McWatch and the prefix “Mc.” “But not McFest,” McClusky said. “The whole reason I called it McFest in the first place is my name.” Although McDonald’s and McClusky have both expressed a desire for a peaceful resolution, they remain in a standoff. McDonald’s refuses to withdraw its complaint, and McClusky is unwilling to accept McDonald’s sponsorship for her event. Due to the work she has already put into building local awareness and recognition of the fundraiser, she is also unwilling to change the name. “It’s hard to change the name of something that’s already established and locally known,” she said. BP’s oil gusher in the Gulf: Spin terminology explained (satire)

May 29, 2010 by

(NaturalNews Satire) What exactly is a “junk shot?” How about “top kill” or an “undersea plume?” The oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is introducing the world to all sorts of fascinating words and phrases from the world of Big Oil. Some of them can be a bit confusing, so as a public service to NaturalNews readers, I’ve published a short dictionary that provides the real meaning behind many of these new terms. “Top Kill” – A technique used to kill everything on the TOP of the ocean using chemical dispersants that cause the dead animal bodies to sink to the BOTTOM of the ocean so they can’t be caught on camera. “Top Hat” – What BP executives will all be wearing at the huge banquet they will soon be holding to celebrate how they pulled off the environmental crime of the century without even a slap on the wrist (thanks to Big Government complicity). “Blowout Preventer” – BP’s public relations person who lies to the press to prevent a P.R. blowout from occurring. A blowout preventer preventer is any member of the press who asks tough questions. “Junk Shot” – An effort to thrust shredded tires, golf balls and other trash into the hole to stop the oil flow. This is the oil industry’s attempt to try to make the Gulf of Mexico look like the streets of Mexico City by filling it with trash. “Chemical Dispersant” – A highly toxic chemical substance being pumped into the Gulf of Mexico by the hundreds of thousands of gallons in an effort to kill so much marine life that the toxicity of the oil itself seems small by comparison. “Undersea Plume” – Rhymes with “doom.” A term used to confuse mainstream news viewers who would be disturbed by the more accurate term, “Undersea VOLCANO of oil.” “Live Feed” – What BP calls a video loop which repeats a few choice frames over and over again and morphs them to create the illusion that it’s actually a live video. The effect is further enhanced by adding a clock that counts off the seconds in real time in the lower right-hand corner. The public is now utterly hypnotized by these video loops, much like house cats watching ceiling fans. “Mud” – A code word for crude oil. This is being repeated on the TV news when newscasters explain that the live video feed showing crude oil bursting out of the ocean floor is mostly just “mud.” They actually mean oil. Mud, after all, does not explode from the ocean floor in a volcanic burst. “According to plan” – A British Petroleum euphemism for “all f**ked up.” As in, “The top kill procedure is going according to plan.” The cleanup is going according to plan, too, it seems. As long as BP is in charge, everything is going according to plan. How dare you suggest they have no clue what they’re doing… “Barrel of oil” – An imaginary unit of oil volume that can be morphed into whatever size BP wishes it to be. At investors’ meetings, the number of barrels of oil in the Gulf of Mexico magically becomes very large, but during oil spills, the number magically shrinks to appear much smaller. “Cleanup workers” – Temporary workers hired by BP to comb the beaches in front of news cameras to make it appear like something useful is happening. BP has now promised to triple the number of active cleanup workers to nine. “You will not be left behind” – A phrase uttered by President Obama, who, immediately after saying it, left everybody behind and took all of BPs beach cleaning crews with him, too. Obama has now returned to his golf game, where he claims to be working on the oil spill problem by aiming his golf balls in the direction of the Gulf of Mexico and hoping they will land in the gaping hole at the bottom of the ocean, thereby making them “junk shot.” Let’s get serious Okay, everything above is just satire, but in reality this Gulf spill is serious business. Although we try to poke fun at the mistakes that were made in causing this to happen, the truth is that this situation is no laughing matter. In the days ahead, I’m going to be posting stories about the seriousness of this environmental catastrophe and what it might mean for the future of our world. Make no mistake: This event has changed the course of our energy future, and it may actually change it in a very positive way in the long term (even though the short term cost of this catastrophe may be outrageously large). Watch for more coverage of this unfolding event right here at NaturalNews.com. And in the mean time, try not to be hoodwinked by BP spin. The truth is, if they had any freaking idea what they were doing, the disaster wouldn’t have happened in the first place (or they would have capped it long before now).

Simple Squares, a delicious raw food bar with a unique herb flare

May 28, 2010 by

(NaturalNews) Sometimes it is the simple things in life that truly impress, and this is precisely the case with Simple Squares, a unique new raw food bar. Created by Kimberly Crupi Dobbins, a certified Holistic Health Counselor, Simple Squares have been designed as a healthy, raw nut and honey confection that is an alternative to junk food sweets. Dobbins originally came up with the idea for Simple Squares during her time at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and Columbia University’s Teachers College. She was advised not to eat wheat, dairy or refined sugar, and decided to come up with a simple recipe for food bars that was raw, sweetened naturally and nutritious. Thus became Simple Squares. Simple Squares are free of wheat, dairy, soy and gluten, they contain no refined sugars, and they are completely uncooked and raw. One of the most unique aspects about Simple Squares is the flavors in which they come. Rosemary and sage are the two herbal flavors, and the company also makes a coconut variety. The squares are composed of a nut blend that includes cashews and almonds, and they are gently sweetened with honey. They also contain flax, vanilla and sea salt, which together form a delicious sweet and salty treat. The sage and rosemary are really the focal point of flavor in those two varieties, but are not so strong as to overwhelm the bars. In fact, each flavor in the bars is accentuated in its own way, delighting the palate with a savory bouquet of natural, wholesome ingredients. But in my opinion, the rosemary and sage are truly unique and have a delicious flavor unlike any other bar I have tried. The simple aspect of the bars is embodied in their seven simple ingredients which are never cooked, preserving every nutrient and enzyme that is naturally present in the raw ingredients. And all this in a small but dense bar that makes a great snack or dessert. It is just the right size to satisfy a sweet tooth without tipping the scales or causing a sugar rush. There are all kinds of bars out there, some simple and some complex. Simple Squares have a simple blend of ingredients that are complex in their respective flavors. I was so impressed by how delicious these bars were when I first tried them that I almost decided to eat only one half and save the other for later… Almost. Though the bars are currently not certified organic, the Simple Squares company is currently in the process of having its bars organic and kosher certified. And though marketed as a confectionary snack, Simple Squares are rich in protein and nutrients, making them comparable to many of the other food and protein superfood bars available on the market. In my opinion, Simple Squares are far from simple when it comes to taste, quality and nutrition; they really are a superfood in disguise. Low levels of vitamin D make asthma worse

May 28, 2010 by

(NaturalNews) Asthmatics with low levels of vitamin D may suffer more severely from the disease than patients with sufficient levels of the vitamin, according to a study conducted by researchers from National Jewish Health in Denver and published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine . “Our findings suggest that low vitamin D levels are associated with worse asthma,” lead researcher E. Rand Sutherland said. The researchers measured the vitamin D blood levels of 54 asthma patients, along with their lung function, airway hyper-responsiveness and response to steroid drug treatment. Airway hyper-responsiveness measures the air passages’ tendency to constrict, leading to breathing difficulty. The researchers found that hyper-responsiveness was twice as high in patients with vitamin D levels below 30 nanograms per milliliter, lung function was worse, and the body responded more poorly to steroid therapy. In addition, the bodies of people with low vitamin D levels produced more or the immune system signaling chemical TNF-alpha, which increases inflammation. “It may be that vitamin D is acting as a modifier of the immune system or a modifier of steroid response in ways that are relevant to people with asthma,” Sutherland said. “There is a potential that restoring normal vitamin D levels in people with asthma may help improve their asthma.” The study also showed, consistent with prior studies, that overweight or obese participants were significantly more likely to suffer from vitamin D deficiency. Scientists believe that because fat sequesters vitamin D in the body, people with more body fat need higher levels of the vitamin. Previous studies have shown that being overweight increases the risk of asthma. The new study suggests that vitamin D might at least in part explain that connection. Asthma treatment also, in turn, increases the risk of vitamin D deficiency. “It is … known that glucocorticoids [steroids used in asthma treatment] increase the destruction of vitamin D, thus making patients with asthma at higher risk for vitamin D deficiency, which in turn decreases lung function and makes their disease worse,” said Michael F. Holick, of Boston University. Sources for this story include: www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/content/healthday/635427.html.

Bill Gates funds covert vaccine nanotechnology

May 28, 2010 by

(NaturalNews) The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is gaining a reputation for funding technologies designed to roll out mass sterilization and vaccination programs around the world. One of the programs recently funded by the foundation is a sterilization program that would use sharp blasts of ultrasound directed against a man’s scrotum to render him infertile for six months. It might accurately be called a “temporary castration” technology. Read more about it here: http://www.naturalnews.com/028853_ultrasound_fetus.html Now, the foundation has funded a new “sweat-triggered vaccine delivery” program based on nanoparticles penetrating human skin. The technology is describes as a way to “…develop nanoparticles that penetrate the skin through hair follicles and burst upon contact with human sweat to release vaccines.” The research grant money is going to Carlos Alberto Guzman of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Germany and Claus-Michael Lehr and Steffi Hansen of the Helmholtz-Institute for Pharmaceutical Research . These are both part of the Gates Foundation’s involvement in the “Grand Challenges Explorations” program which claims to be working to “achieve major breakthroughs in global health.” …breakthroughs like mass sterilization and nanoparticle vaccines that could be covertly administered even without your knowledge, it turns out. These nanoparticles could be used in a spray mist that’s sprayed on to every person who walks through an airport security checkpoint, for example. Or it could be unleashed through the ventilation systems of corporate office buildings or public schools to vaccinate the masses. You wouldn’t even know you were being vaccinated. This technology is potentially very dangerous to your health freedom. Using it, governments or drug companies (which are all the same thing these days) could create a vaccine skin cream that’s handed out and described as “sunscreen.” But when you put it on, you’re actually vaccinating yourself as the nanoparticles burrow underneath your skin and burst, releasing foreign DNA inside your body. A history of covert mass medication But why would the government medicate people without their knowledge or consent, you ask? They already do it with water fluoridation . Fluoride is a drug, and regional and national governments all over the world are using the water supply as a way to deliver the fluoride drug to people whether they need it or not — and without any proper medical diagnosis or prescription. So if governments are already covertly medicating people with fluoride in the water supply, they’ve set the stage mass-vaccinating people through similar channels, such as the air supply in buildings. And thanks to Bill Gates, this nanotechnology needed to pull this off is now being funded. Is this really a “major breakthrough in global health?” I suppose it is if you believe in covert medicine where you dose people with drugs or vaccines without their knowledge. Western medicine is so offensive to rational people that it can’t even operate out in the open. That’s why it resorts to covert contamination of the water supply in order to force the public to swallow its drugs. Fluoride and covert medicine Oh, by the way, to anyone who argues that fluoride is not a drug, remember this: According to the FDA, any chemical substance that has a biological effect on the human body is, by definition, a drug. Therefore fluoride is a drug, too. Even more, fluoride is promoted with outlandish claims about “preventing cavities” by swallowing it, making it an “unapproved drug” according to the FDA. So how is it that this unapproved drug can be dripped into the water supply and forced upon hundreds of millions of people without a single diagnosis of fluoride deficiency or even a single prescription from a doctor? The answer is that western medicine is so arrogant that it does not believe it needs to follow any rules, regulations or laws. It is a system of “bully” medicine where drugs are shoved down your throat by being covertly dripped into the water supply without your consent. So why should we believe vaccines will be any different? If mainstream medicine can find a way to force every person to unknowingly be injected with vaccines, make no mistake they will pursue it! And such efforts will no doubt have the continued financial support of Bill Gates.
