Snoring is common and one time or another people have experienced it or have had the displeasure of hearing it, most snorers are not aware they snore until someone else tells them. Snoring can be caused by a lot of things, for some people, they find themselves snoring after they have had quite a stressful day, for some it is caused by an underlying medical condition that they have yet to realize.
A snore occurs when the airflow going through the airways, causes the tissues of the nose and throat to vibrate. Men tend to snore more than women according to medical studies because they have a more narrow airway. During sleep, the throat narrows, which is why the air that passes through it causes the tissues to vibrate resulting in the sound of a snore, the narrower the throat or passage of air gets, the louder the vibrations, thus the louder the snore. The following are some of the known causes and known cures for snoring.
Snoring causes can include fatigue, sinus infections or a wrong sleeping position. Calming yourself with a nice hot cup of herbal tea combats the feeling of fatigue, which in turn lessens the possibility of snoring during sleep. If you have sinus infections, then take some medication to cure the sinus problem to prevent snoring, although most of the time if a sinus infection is the reason, snoring goes away as soon as the infection goes away. Some medications can also cause snoring so be aware of what kinds of medications you take. In some cases, snoring can be a symptom of an underlying serious medical condition like a heart problem, periodic limb disorder or restless leg syndrome. Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder when a person stops breathing during sleep, this can occur mid-snore, so if you notice your partner shifting from a snore to gasping air, then it is time to go seek serious medical attention because this can lead to death if not dealt with properly.
