Gingrich wants what never was and can never be – a more aggressive drug war policy that works

(NaturalNews) Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is rising in the polls and could very well wind up being the next Republican presidential nominee. Like him or despise him, one knock against him is his publicly stated desire for something that hasn’t worked and can never work – a more “aggressive” drug policy and an absolute prohibition on medical marijuana. In an interview last month, Gingrich changed his mind since 1981, when he first introduced legislation to legalize marijuana. “What has changed was the number of parents I met with who said they did not want their children to get the signal from the government that it was acceptable behavior and that they were prepared to say as a matter of value that it was better to send a clear signal on no drug use at the risk of inconveniencing some people, than it was to be compassionate toward a small group at the risk of telling a much larger group that it was okay to use the drug,” he said. “My general belief is that we ought to be much more aggressive about drug policy.” The facts don’t bear that a “more aggressive” drug policy works, considering the “war on drugs” the U.S. has been waging since the 1980s. What has happened is this: millions of Americans have been jailed for smoking marijuana, and yet marijuana use has only grown over the past 30 years. In 2005, 12.7 percent of state inmates and 12.4 percent of federal prisoners were being incarcerated for marijuana use, according to the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics. Extrapolating out the costs, taxpayers – in 2005 – were ponying up $1 billion a year to keep people in jail whose only crime is smoking a “drug” that has less dangerous social implications than alcohol, which is legal, of course. But Gingrich wants even stiffer penalties for drug use – any drug. But to his credit, at least, he didn’t think prison was the answer. He favors providing medical help and drug treatment, but again, taxpayers would be on the hook for these programs too. And why does a casual marijuana user need a drug treatment program, when casual alcohol users aren’t required to attend AA meetings? The tide could be turning against Gingrich. Sixteen states and Washington, D.C., have legalized medical marijuana, even though the federal government still lists it as a Schedule I substance – the most medically useless and dangerous of drugs. Also, Gingrich says his opposition is rooted in concern for children regarding drug use, and the “signal” it would send in terms of government condoning it. For one, medical marijuana use does not increase usage among children , a recent report has found. And two, children watch adults drink alcohol but are well aware that legally , they can’t have a drink until they are 21 years old. Wouldn’t it be prudent to place a similar age restriction on smoking marijuana? The pot issue is more one of finding the right combination of laws and public policy, to handle both the perception issue and the usage issue. The fight is not about whether marijuana is too dangerous, especially when compared to alcohol, because when that comparison is made, alcohol loses hands down . CDC establishes vaccine ‘task forces’ in local communities to intimidate parents of unvaccinated children, coerce them into compliance

(NaturalNews) Obviously unnerved with the growing number of parents that are choosing to avoid vaccinations for their children, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has decided to establish localized vaccine “task force” squads that go door-to-door in local communities in order to harass parents into compliance. Every state in the Union has provisions on the books that recognize the freedom of individuals to opt out of getting vaccinated for medical, religious, or philosophical reasons — and in many cases, states recognize exemptions for all three (http://www.nvic.org/Vaccine-Laws/state-vaccine-requirements.aspx). But in an attempt to satisfy its Big Pharma overlords and reverse this trend, the federal government is resorting to bullying tactics in order to stem the anti-vaccine tide. Conveniently leaving out the fact that parents are not required by law to have their children vaccinated, these officials tried to strong-arm parents into compliance with intimidation tactics — naturally, most of the parents rejected the ploy. In 2009, the US Senate passed HR 3590, which provisioned for the CDC to create “Community Preventive Services Task Forces” — this being the politically-correct name for the vaccine-enforcement mafia groups that would soon result. And this Big Pharma-driven agenda, which is, of course, funded by taxpayer dollars, tasks local school and health officials with doing the dirty work. Fortunately, most of the parents who opt out of vaccines for their children in the first place are smarter than the system, and they know their rights. But many parents in general still falsely believe that vaccines are mandatory, and that they have no freedom of choice to refuse them. DHA used in infant formula products comes from genetically modified algae

(NaturalNews) One of the most vulnerable segments of the population — infants — are being affected as chemical giant Martek Biosciences uses cronyism to have its patented GMO products classified as organic. The National Organic Program is trying to correct this, but in the meantime the “organic” infant formula or baby food parents feed their children could contain industrial Frankenfood. History of Irresponsibility The story of how this state of affairs came about reveals much on how politics and profit can undermine food safety. Here’s a timeline on how the word “organic” is being undermined, creating a health threat for babies who are fed with formula. 2002: Food manufacturers begin supplementing infant formula and baby food with synthetic forms of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (ARA). These polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, naturally present in breast milk, are important components of the human brain and eyes. Although the form of DHA/ARA used in infant formulas is structurally incompatible with the form found in human milk, food manufacturers market their products with the claim that their formulas will make babies more intelligent. 2006: In spite of the fact that its synthetic DHA/ARA is from laboratory-grown fermented algae and fungus through the use of hexane, a petroleum by-product and EPA-identified neurotoxin, Martek applies for organic status for its products. The USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) tells Martek its synthetic DHA and ARA does not quality as organic. Martek attorney J. Friedman ignores the decision of NOP staff and contacts NOP director Barbara Robinson to have the decision reversed. 2009: A front page Washington Post article, “Integrity of Federal ‘Organic’ Label Questioned” uncovers the Martek story. The article quotes Martek’s lawyer saying “I called Robinson up, I wrote an e-mail. It was a simple matter.” 2002-2010: Parents and medical professionals observe reactions in babies fed with products containing Life’s DHA, the product name Martek gives its patented GMO version of naturally occurring fatty acids. The range of infant health problems includes difficulties breathing and gastrointestinal disorders. When affected babies are no longer fed the formula, the ailments disappear. Although Freedom of Information Act requests reveal hundreds of FDA adverse event reports, the FDA is slow to react. 2011: FDA announces it will investigate claims that DHA/ARA infant formulas support brain and eye development. The National Organic Program is now trying to remedy its 2006 decision by asking Martek to formally ask permission of the NOP’s National Organic Standards Board to use its DHA and AHA in organic products. North Korea may soon be able to strike USA with ultimate doomsday weapon that deactivates (nearly) all electronics

(NaturalNews) Obama administration officials have released new intelligence indicating North Korea is building mobile ICBMs that will soon be able to reach the United States. High-Altitude EMP could fry the USA back into the pre-industrial age HEMP weapons are detonated in the high atmosphere, theoretically as high as 300 miles above the ground (well above the orbits of most satellites, even). If anything, the USA has been building resentment among other powerful nations such as China, which not only holds a shockingly high percentage of the U.S. national debt, but also has advanced rocketry technology and an ability to launch nuclear missiles into high orbit. Both Russia and China are fed up with the U.S. mucking around in the Middle East, and nearly everyone in the Middle East is fed up with U.S. support for Israel. What all this means is that America is making enemies, not friends , and some of those enemies no doubt have EMP technology already developed that could literally “bomb” America back into the pre-industrial era. Why the real threats have little to do with individual terrorists As you can tell if you’re getting all this, the real threats against America have almost nothing to do with lone terrorists trying to bomb a single airplane, for example. The TSA is a cruel joke. It will no more keep you safe than wishing for a magical unicorn to show up and whisk you away from danger. Even the events of 9/11 would pale in comparison to the total devastation unleashed by a high-altitude EMP device. The best “defense” against a military invasion, it turns out, is to have strong economic trading partners who need your nation to stick around so they have viable trading partners. People may bash the apparent insanity of the idea, but it is one of the things that has kept America relatively safe for generations. I don’t have a lot of kind words for the military industrial complex, but at the end of the day, I must honestly acknowledge the fact that the U.S. military’s possession of nuclear weapons has effectively countered the nuclear arsenals of other nations. In the same way, the most polite place in the world you will ever visit is a small town where everybody carries a concealed weapon. You’ll hear a lot of “sir” and “ma’am” in polite conversation. People tend to avoid arguments for precisely the reason you might imagine: Because they’re all armed. “Mutually Assured Destruction” is a deterrent to violence at both the local level and the global level. It may sound insane, but on a practical level, it prevents violence and helps keep the peace. And that’s why the USA is no doubt also working on its own HEMP weapons. Even China is extremely vulnerable to the EMP destruction of electronics. It’s no longer a developing nation, you see. China left that in the dust decades ago. Today, China is a high-tech, electronically-organized nation in much the same way as the USA. Perhaps only Papua New Guinea would be completely immune to an EMP attack. Nearly all other nations (including North Korea) would be devastated by it. Solutions: What can YOU do about this right now? Okay, so if you’re convinced that the threat of EMP weapons looms over all advanced nations today, what exactly can you do about it? I’ll answer it in three words: Go low tech. In addition to your high-tech, electronically timed clothes dryer, have a clothesline outside so you can use the sun to dry your clothes. In addition to your high-tech Toyota Prius that’s packed with high-density electronics, have an old “beater” wagon from the 1970′s sitting around in case you need it. Heck, you don’t even need to keep paying the license taxes on it if you don’t drive it day to day. For every tool you have that’s electronic, have a hand-powered alternative standing by: Hand saws, hand drills and other hand-powered tools are easy to come by. Don’t rely entirely on electronics. Think about low-tech items that reliably work. Duct tape. Scissors. Shovels. Quality cutlery in the kitchen. And if you can, find yourself one of those antique treadle sewing machines powered by your foot! (I’ve been trying to find one of these for months and can’t dig one up…) How are you gonna write things down when the electronics are all melted? You’d be amazed how many people no longer have pencil and paper , especially among the younger generation which has entirely abandoned wristwatches, too. (Their mobile phones tell them the time, you see.) Have you ever tried to MAKE a pencil? You’d be amazed how difficult it is. It’s so much easier to just buy a bunch right now and have them stored away. They’re cheap, and for the moment, UPS trucks still operate just fine and they’ll bring these pencils right to your doorstep in a pretty brown box. Getting back to basics In a way, a world without electronics might actually be a far more “real” world than the one in which we live today. More peaceful… back to nature… a place where local community would mean something once again. But of course there would also be a huge price to pay for that transition in terms of lost lives in the cities where people are so disconnected from the real world that they are utterly unable to survive in it. Today’s teens are so addicted to texting devices that I’m pretty sure some of them would just flat-out drop dead within 24 hours if the cell towers stopped functioning. The good news in all this is that getting back to basics is a wise strategy no matter what threats we may be facing in the near future: Nuclear war, police state tyranny, EMP weapons, natural disasters, Earth changes, and so on. The more you can rely on your own two hands — and simple tools that leverage your efforts — the more likely you are to survive the next decade. It also goes without saying that if EMP weapons are unleashed upon the world, the internet will be destroyed , meaning you won’t be able to search Google to find answers like “How do I grow tomatoes?” You’ll need to either have the knowledge in your head or have the physical books on your shelf which is one of the reasons why I still buy lots of physical books. They don’t break, and they never have to be rebooted. If there’s one thing I’ve really learned in all these years of analyzing society, history and technology, it’s that technology is fragile , and so are civilizations. The society we take for granted today is far more fragile than you might imagine, and the whole thing could come tumbling down in a microsecond. It wouldn’t even take an act of war to make it happen: just one high-energy solar flare could accomplish much the same effect. In stunning show of bureaucratic idiocy, EU directive bans health claim that water prevents dehydration

(NaturalNews) The collection of medically-indoctrinated idiots known as the European Food Standards Authority has officially disallowed a product health claim that says water prevents dehydration . This means the EU does not even recognize the therapeutic ability of water to reverse chronic dehydration. It makes you wonder: If water cannot treat dehydration, then what would they use instead? The claim that was denied by the EFSA stated that “regular consumption of significant amounts of water can reduce the risk of development of dehydration.” This claim was submitted to the EFSA by consultants who advise food and beverage companies (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/eu/8897662/EU-bans-claim-that-water-can-prevent-dehydration.html).
