Consumers are eager to get their hands on, and teeth into, foods that are genetically modified to increase health benefits – and even pay more for the opportunity, new research shows.
Coming in 2012: Genetically modified front lawns and the mass spraying of neighborhoods and playgrounds with RoundUp

(NaturalNews) Thanks to a recent admission by the USDA that it does not have the regulatory framework to even regulate GMOs, the world of biotech is set to unleash a tidal wave of genetically modified seeds upon the United States. This is the upshot of Scotts Miracle-Gro challenging the USDA over its GMO grass seeds, to which the USDA threw in the towel and essentially announced it can’t technically regulate many GMOs at all. Welcome to the new world order of GMO self regulation , where the companies that produce the GMO seeds now get to regulate their own behavior! (http://motherjones.com/tom-philpott/2011/07/welcome-age-gmo-industry-self-regulation) Scotts Miracle-Gro is now moving full speed ahead on its GMO yard grass product, which could theoretically be introduced into the marketplace as early as 2012. This is a home consumer yard grass seed which, of course, resists glyphosate (RoundUp), and its introduction into the marketplace would almost certainly result in millions of homeowners across America planting these seeds in their yard and then spraying RoundUp across their entire lawn as a “treatment” for eliminating weeds. RoundUp, in other words, may be coming soon to a neighborhood near you. And it’s not just the lawns, either: This combination of Scotts GMO grass and RoundUp chemicals could be used on playgrounds, schoolyards, community centers and parks. Once this goes into production, there will be virtually no place your family can go in America that isn’t contaminated with genetically modified grass seeds and toxic glyphosate chemicals. A whole new wave of superweeds The upshot of all this is not merely the astonishing lack of regulation now being admitted by the USDA (which always sided with the biotech industry anyway, so what’s new?), but the cause-and-effect results we may soon see. We could be looking at a wave of superweeds spreading across America . These superweeds will be the baddest, toughest and most chemically-resistant weeds our world has ever seen. They develop as mutant derivatives of the mass spraying of RoundUp chemicals across lawns. In much the same way that superbugs develop in the presence of widespread antibiotics abuse, superweeds , develop in the presence of widespread glyphosate abuse (http://www.businessinsider.com/genetically-modified-grass-new-era-of-superweeds-toxic-herbicides-2011-7). And of course once these superweeds take over America’s sidewalks, driveways and lawns, there will be cries for newer, stronger chemical products to kill those superweeds, too. And who will come to the rescue? Monsanto , of course… the very same company that produces RoundUp and thereby contributed to the problem in the first place. Let the boycott of Scott’s Miracle Grow begin! Join NaturalNews in boycotting Scotts products beginning today. We will maintain this boycott until Scotts announces it will no longer pursue GMO seeds. Remember: GMO Kentucky bluegrass will cross-pollinate with other grasses in the wild, leading to widespread GMO contamination of lawns across our nation! Join us in sending complaints to Scotts about their pursuit of GMOs. Click here to send Scotts an email. Then call them by phone at 888-270-3714 (during normal business hours). When you call, let them know you are strongly opposed to their pursuit of GMO Kentucky bluegrass and that you will stop buying all Scotts / Miracle-Gro products from here forward unless Scotts announces it will back away from GMOs. You may also mail them a letter by sending it to: Scotts Help Center 14111 Scottslawn Rd. Marysville, OH 43041 Why this matters Please join us in this protest against Scotts Miracle-Gro. And to once again summarize why this action is important, remember these simple truths: • Unleashing genetically modified Kentucky bluegrass in America, to be used across neighborhood lawns and playgrounds, will result in the mass genetic contamination of other types of grasses. • There is absolutely no scientific evidence showing GMO Kentucky bluegrass to be safe for neighborhoods or the environment. The USDA simply refuses to regulate it. • Scotts Miracle-Gro is extremely irresponsible in pursuing such a product, and the company could be guilty of crimes against nature if it unleashes these products into the wild. • If this GMO grass is planted on lawns across America, it will spur the widespread use of Roundup herbicide (made by Monsanto), which will devastate the soils and contaminate the streams and rivers downstream. We are talking about potentially dumping tens of millions of gallons of RoundUp into the environment while boosting the profits of Monsanto! • If Scotts Miracle-Gro pursues this genetically modified lawn seed, it will instantly place itself on the list of the top 10 most evil companies in North America, earning it widespread criticism, condemnation and boycotts from consumers (who, for the most part, have a positive image of Scott’s right now). Many gardeners who currently use Scotts Miracle-Gro products will boycott them instead. Gardeners love the natural world, remember. And they do not like to see companies unleashing GMOs across that natural world. • NaturalNews will continue to track and publicize Scotts’ actions regarding GMO grass seed, and if the company insists in introducing this product, we will work with people like Jeffrey Smith (www.ResponsibleTechnology.org) to organize massive protests against such irresponsible business practices. Spread the word. Boycott Scotts Miracle-Gro. This company is on the verge of releasing GMO seeds across out front lawns and neighborhoods — a move that would soon be followed by the mass-spraying of RoundUp pesticides by all your ignorant neighbors who know nothing of the dangers of GMOs and glyphosate. Please share this story and help get the word out. Scotts Miracle-Gro must go. Just Say No to GMOs (www.NaturalNews.com/music).
Cap The Gene Spill – New video says GMO contamination of world is far worse than Gulf of Mexico oil spill

(NaturalNews) As part of an ongoing effort to warn the public about the dangers of runaway GMO pollution of our planet, the Institute for Responsible Technology executive director Jeffrey Smith has released a new video called Cap the Gene Spill . The video is viewable in its entirety at: http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=29315DF17DC44267949234EA7262ED2F In it, Jeffrey compares the genetically modified contamination of the planet to the Gulf of Mexico oil catastrophe. Except the genetic pollution of our planet is actually far worse than the Gulf spill because genetic pollution can’t be “cleaned up.” It persists in the environment… perhaps for the entire future of life on planet Earth. Here’s some of what Jeffrey Smith says in this new video: [GMO pollution causes] intense, insidious environmental degradation that may never be able to be cleaned up. And just like the oil spill, you can trace it back to government incompetence and collusion, and industry manipulation — putting out technologies that are not safe long before the science is ready. What about the self-propagating genetic pollution? Once it gets out, it then spreads, and cross pollinates… it becomes a self-propagating pollution that could outlast the effects of global warming or nuclear waste. This is an impossible thing to clean up, and we are bequeathing to all future generations the folly of this generation. Never before have we fed the products of an infant science to the entire population, or released it into the environment without a way to fully recall it. So we need to cap the gene spill . Put it back in the laboratory where it belongs. Maybe someday we can predictably and safely manipulate the DNA of plants and know what its impacts will be in the environment and in our bodies, but that day is far away. Watch the full video now at: http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=29315DF17DC44267949234EA7262ED2F The video links to www.ShopNoGMO.org which offers a convenient shopping guide to help you avoid genetically modified foods in grocery stores and health food stores. Personally, I consider Jeffrey Smith to be the single most important person leading the fight to stop the genetically modified gene contamination of our world. This man deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his valiant efforts to protect humanity from what is literally becoming the seeds of our own destruction . Follow Jeffrey’s work at www.ResponsibleTechnology.org Soon, NaturalNews will be launching a separate news channel on GMOs, and we plan to strongly increase our editorial coverage of Jeffrey’s outstanding work. Keep reading NaturalNews.com for more news about our collective fight to help save humanity from the evils of fraudulent science and greed-driven corporations that seek to control the world’s food crops. Please also share the link to this page, and forward the video link to as many of your friends as possible. They need to see this. Really.
The latest scientific abomination: Genetically modified cows produce human breast milk
April 4, 2011 by
(NaturalNews) There seems to be no limit to the violations of natural law that will be committed in the name of “science.” The latest is an effort to make cows produce human breast milk by using genetically modified embryos crossed with human genes, then implanted into surrogate cows. The result is a cow that produces milk containing a human protein called lysozyme, making it closer to the nutritional composition of human breast milk. Efforts are under way to use the same genetic engineering of cows to produce human-like milk with higher fat content, lactoferrin and alpha-lactalbumin as well. Yet another “scientific” crime against nature That such an experiment is even going on, of course, is sick at so many levels . It is a crime against nature being committed solely for corporate greed. Look where this is headed: These genetically modified cows will be produced en masse , then held in what are basically dairy concentration camps so that they can produce milk that some wealthy, powerful corporation will then market to American consumers as a “breast milk replacement.” Mothers will be told all sorts of lies about it, such as, “Oh, you don’t need to breastfeed your babies anymore. You can just buy this cow/human GMO breast milk! It’s exactly the same!” Of course, the mad scientists pushing this scheme will claim it’s a way for women who can’t produce breast milk to buy a source of human-like milk for their babies. But that’s nonsense: We already have a whole species of HUMAN WOMEN who can produce breast milk and who are trying to offer it for sale online but are being threatened and shut down by health authorities. The government, you see, doesn’t want women to be able to sell their own breast milk to other women whose children might need it. No, they want you to buy it from a corporation running a factory dairy operation using genetically modified cows . Because that’s more “scientific” somehow. It all makes no sense, of course. Why genetically engineer cows with human genes when we already have humans with human genes who can create PERFECT human breast milk right now? Corporate greed in the name of science knows no bounds As with nearly everything being done in the name of science these days, this is really just a case of runaway corporate greed ; not respect, humility or even a sense of compassion for humans and animals. In the name of “science,” these poor genetically engineered cows won’t even be able to produce cow milk for their own babies! They will be freaks of nature that are completely out of balance with their own species. The Chinese scientist who carried out this crime against nature, by the way, thinks it’s a great idea, saying “The modified bovine milk is a possible substitute for human milk. It fulfilled the conception of humanizing the bovine milk.” (http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/04/03/scientists-genetically-modify-cows-produce-human-milk) Did you catch that phrase? “Humanizing bovine milk.” But hey, why even bother? Bovine milk is food for baby cows , and yet the milk industry has somehow convinced human adults that they need to keep consuming this baby cow beverage. Just the fact that so many human beings keep drinking pasteurized, homogenized, processed cow’s milk through their entire life is utterly bizarre to begin with. Now with their genetic engineering of dairy cattle, what slogan will they come up with next? “This milk is NEARLY HUMAN!” OMG, rush out and buy some! It’s nearly human! Can I drink some, too? Because what’s ultimately obvious from all this is that the real animals in all this are the mad scientists who keep playing God with genetic code. They’re smug and arrogant in their “success” of creating cow’s milk that’s almost human, not realizing that God and Mother Nature already created the perfect nutritional beverage for human babies hundreds of thousands of years ago , with NO science, no patents, no FDA, no technology and no corporations whatsoever. It’s called human breast milk and there is no substitute. Besides, genetically engineering a cow to produce human-like breast milk isn’t much of an achievement. A far greater challenge would be genetically engineering a pig to be a moronic and short-sighted as modern-day GMO scientists. I’m not even sure that’s possible. Rally for the right to know: Educating the masses about GMOs

(NaturalNews) On March 26th 2011, social activists and other activist organizations plan to unite at “The Rally for the Right to Know” in Washington, DC., www.facebook.com/rallyfortherighttoknow2011. They will gather before the eyes of law makers to do what the FDA, USDA and other government food overlords refuse to do and what Congress refuses to make them do: educate the public about what they are really eating. By informing passersby about the genetically modified ingredients in their food, they hope newly informed consumers will join their ranks to demand the independent scientific study of and labeling of genetically modified foods, as well as protection for organic farmers from cross contamination and the loss of organic markets. In conjunction with the rally in DC, rallies are being held in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Vermont and Wisconsin. Additional rallies continue to crop up across the US and there is the hope that every state will hold a “Rally for the Right to Know.” The greatest obstacle we face is corporate power and influence, and the lack of transparency created by failing to label these foods. Too few consumers know and understand what “genetically modified” means. Normally, plants obtain their traits through selective breeding and crossing of desired parents. GM takes traits from foreign material (plants, animals, humans, bacteria, viruses) and inserts the new gene into the DNA using laboratory methods. Although biotech corporations such as Monsanto are granted patents on their genetically modified seeds because they are different, the FDA considers GM foods “substantially equivalent” and does not require food manufacturers to disclose that these ingredients are from genetically modified sources. They are “substantially” different enough to patent, but not to disclose to consumers who trust the FDA to provide them with information about food and to assure their safety. Neither is happening when it comes to GM foods. Consumers are also unaware of the growing body of evidence that show health and environmental concerns. Because independent studies are not allowed in North America, and biotech corporations don’t release their tests due to patent infringement, governments and consumers are unable to see what those exact tests are; only the biotech corporations findings. But new diseases and health issues are continuing to surface, leaving questions as to why GM foods are not examined more carefully. Environmental concerns of GM cross contamination and “volunteer” plants escaping and growing outside of fields and boundaries are also a potential threat to natural habitats and wildlife. Corporate control of world food and seed supplies, monopolization through patents, and government lobbying are placing corporate interests above human interests on all levels of our government. Consumers have the right to know and choose which foods they eat. Most consumers that know choose NOT to purchase or consume GM foods.

Consumer activists unite to demand labeling of genetically modified foods

(NaturalNews) Washington, DC March 14, 2011. A growing number of consumer activists are staging demonstrations all over the US, with the largest so far at the White House on March 26, 2011. They demand labeling of genetically modified foods and they’re urging activists around the country to “Rally for the Right to Know” locally. The idea has spread like wildfire with other grassroots rallies already being planned in Colorado, California, Wisconsin, Indiana, Tennessee, Florida and Oregon to coincide with the rally in Washington DC. Their demands are: 1. We have the right to know and want genetically modified foods labeled. 2. We want factory farmed animal and genetically modified animal products labeled. 3. We want independent, transparent, long-term studies done on the safety of GMO’s for animals, plants and humans. 4. We want the organic industry protected from cross-contamination and law suits to organic farmers. The FDA currently considers GM foods “substantially equivalent” and therefore doesn’t require labeling. There is a growing body of evidence that show: * Health and environmental concerns. * Corporate control of world food and seed supplies, and monopolization through patents, government lobbying and corporate interest over human interest in all levels of government. * Monsanto is the leader in GM patents. Rally Organizer, Trish Wright “We will not stop in our efforts to accomplish our goals. If the FDA won’t tell people, we will. Our freedom of choice is being violated by the FDA not requiring these products to be labeled.” To date, the majority of commodity crops are genetically engineered. (Soy, corn, canola, cotton). Many deregulated crops such as GE Alfalfa and GE Sugar Beet, being planted in 2011, have the ability to destroy the organic industry. People are asked to participate in, or organize a rally in their area. Visit: www.facebook.com/rallyfortherighttoknow2011 for more information.
GMO lies: Deliberate misuse of the term "genetically modified" designed to mislead people

(NaturalNews) It’s one of the most common false arguments of GMO pushers: There’s nothing to be worried about with genetically modified foods, they argue, because almost everything is genetically modified, they claim. What they’re referring to is the genetic selection used in the long, slow development of many crops such as wheat, which originally began as a grass but was shaped generation after generation through the selection of larger seeds, ultimately leading to modern-day wheat. This stands in stark contrast to genetic engineering , which is the artificial inserting of genetic code (often from animal species, by the way) into the DNA of a plant. This is a completely artificial, interventionist “engineering” of the DNA of a plant that wildly differs from mere genetic “selection.” GMO poison pushers attempt to confuse people with these terms by claiming that “lots of foods are genetically modified,” thereby blurring the distinction between genetic selection versus genetic engineering . I’ve even heard top-level scientists attempt to use this false argument, hoping that no one will notice. The simple truth is that genetic selection works in harmony with natural processes of gene variation within a species. If you grow corn, and you save the seeds from your best-tasting corn to plant the next generation of corn, you are engaged in genetic selection . This is natural. But the GMO industry doesn’t even want you to be able to save your seeds from one generation to the next. They use “terminator” technology in the seeds to ensure that the second generation of seeds is non-viable. That alone is a crime against humanity because it forces a seed monopoly upon farmers and consumers in developing nations and first-world nations. This is why any individual or organization that is in favor of seed-termination technology in GMOs is supporting a crime against nature . As usual, the powerful corporations pushing GMOs are attempting to blatantly confuse consumers (and journalists) over the difference between genetic selection versus genetic engineering . None of the biotech GMOs are created through selection processes along. They all are based on artificial genetic engineering. 10 facts you need to know about GMOs: • GMOs are created through artificial genetic engineering of plant DNA, usually through inserting animal genes into plants. • Genetic “selection,” in contrast, is a natural process whereby people plant seeds, generation after generation, from their crops that demonstrate desirable characteristics. This is how wheat, corn and other crops were developed over centuries of seed selection. • The GMO industry uses seed terminator technology to forbid seed saving and planting, thereby forcing farmers to buy seeds year after year (creating a seed monopoly and a single point of control for food). • People who promote GMOs are engaged in crimes against humanity and crimes against nature. They promote dangerous technologies that threaten the future of life on earth by causing genetic pollution and a sharp loss of seed diversity . • GMOs have been linked to at least 200,000 suicides in India over the past decade due to failed crops (http://www.naturalnews.com/030913_Monsanto_suicides.html). • The GMO industry has financially taken over much of the mainstream media, politicians and science journals (http://www.naturalnews.com/031093_unscientific_GMOs.html). They will not stop until they achieve complete control over the world food supply, enslaving humanity in a food monopoly. • GMOs cause “genetic pollution” that damage other crops and ultimately threaten the reproductive viability of crops in the long term. The future of food is jeopardized by GMOs. • The GMO industry is now attempting to brand all opponents of GMOs as “unscientific” by claiming that GMO = science, and therefore anyone who opposes GMOs is automatically an opponent of science (http://www.naturalnews.com/031093_unscientific_GMOs.html). • The GMO push into Europe is a confirmed conspiracy involving U.S. officials and GMO corporations, as revealed in a Wikileaks cable that the mainstream media has still refused to report (http://www.naturalnews.com/030828_GMOs_Wikileaks.html). • The next great food famine (and mass starvation) will undoubtedly be caused by GMOs. And yet the industry claims that GMOs will save the planet from starvation! Only in a crooked, corrupt world could an industry claim to be saving the world while actually enslaving the world. (NaturalNews) As part of the October Non-GMO month, the Health Ranger has released a new rap music video called “Just Say No to GMO.” Written and performed by Michael Adams (the Health Ranger), this new song takes aim at the biotech industry by exposing the dangers of genetically engineered foods while promoting the Non-GMO Project Verified logo that helps consumers identify which foods are free from dangerous GMOs. The music video is available now on the NaturalNews.TV video site: http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=B459FF2B150FDF4651302A60993D9CF3 It is also available on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnN6FFjZBZQ The video features rap lines from Jeffrey Smith, executive director of the Institute for Responsible Technology (www.ResponsibleTechnology.org), a non-profit educational group that teaches consumers about the many dangers of genetically engineered foods. IRT also supports mandatory labeling of GMO foods so that consumers may choose to avoid them. The “Just Say No to GMO” song can be downloaded as a free MP3 file at http://www.naturalnews.com/NoGMO That same page offers song lyrics, ringtones, videos, commentary and information resources where consumers can learn more about the dangers of GMO foods. “Just Say No to GMO” is the fifth song in Mike Adams’ album “Beyond All Reason,” available for free at: www.NaturalNews.com/Music “I’m really excited to be able to sing about the dangers of GMOs and help alert people to what’s really in their foods,” Adams said. “This is an issue that touches the lives of virtually everyone. Genetically engineered foods have invaded our food supply, and people have a right to know what that means to their health.” Adams is a strong supporter of the IRT as well as other anti-GMO organizations such as Non-GMO Project (www.NonGMOproject.org), the Organic Consumers Association (www.OrganicConsumers.com) and the Center for Food Safety (www.TrueFoodNow.org). Adams also supports the efforts of other natural health industry individuals and organizations who are battling against GMOs in the food supply, such as Dr Joseph Mercola (www.Mercola.com) and Food Democracy Now (www.FoodDemocracyNow.org). Reaction to the Just Say No to GMO song has been strongly positive: “Mike’s Anti-GMO rap is not only great music, it’s just the kind of creative way we need to get the message out to people who may not even know they are eating dangerous genetically modified organisms every day. Great job Mike!” – Jeffrey Smith, executive director, Institute for Responsible Technology www.ResponsibleTechnology.org “Just say no to GMOs is the Battle Hymn for our new Organic Republic. Take action against Monsanto and their mad scientists and indentured politicians.” – Ronnie Cummins, Director, Organic Consumers Association www.OrganicConsumers.org “Mike Adams unleashes his creative talents once again by putting together Just Say NO to GMO . It’s a wildly clever and catchy way to educate you about the real dangers and authentic risks that GMO’s pose to the public health.” – Dr. Mercola, Founder of www.Mercola.com “Mike Adams has combined his talents of honest health reporting and surprising music composition to create a song that is a modern call to action against the dangerous and imminent genetic modification of our entire food supply.” – Kevin Gianni, founder, the Renegade Health Show www.RenegadeHealth.com “If the youth of any generation are the catalyst for real change, Mike Adams just put the next generation on the map when it comes to saying no to genetically modified foodstuffs.” – Robert Scott Bell, host and creator of the Robert Scott Bell radio show www.RobertScottBell.com “Mike always impresses me with his dedication to truth, passion for natural health and innovative ways of sharing the messages he cares about – and this new song is no exception! ‘Just Say No to GMOs’ is a powerful and meaningful call to action, which I am sure will especially appeal to young people and help educate them on food safety.
