Treat cancer – Recent research shows natural combinations boost IV vitamin C

(NaturalNews) The latest research on high dose, intravenous vitamin C continues to confirm its cytotoxic effects on many cancers in tissue culture models. Results have been so promising that oncologists are now researching the combination of vitamin C with standard chemo drugs. Not surprisingly, vitamin C was found to boost the effectiveness of several chemo drugs so much that two clinical trials have been started. But recent research has also uncovered several natural compounds that boost the cancer-killing effects of vitamin C and may pave the way for highly effective, all-natural combination therapies in the future. It is now well accepted that high dose IV vitamin C therapy generates hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in tissues, and it is the H2O2 that selectively kills cancer cells through oxidative stress. Oncologists reasoned that this added stress may enhance chemo drugs’ effectiveness. Many lab studies have supported this, showing that vitamin C significantly increases the effectiveness of drugs against breast, colon, ovarian, prostate cancer cells and others. However, some of the same studies also confirmed the cytotoxicity of vitamin C alone for these cancers. This raises the question if doctors should be looking for less harmful, natural agents to combine with vitamin C rather than chemo drugs, which often carry terrible side effects and toxicity. Recent research has shown that several natural compounds do indeed boost vitamin C’s ability to kill cancer cells. A summary of this is shown in the table below, along with the combined anti-cancer effect compared to vitamin C alone (indicative only), and the type of cancer tested. Natural Agent Combined With Vitamin C or H2O2–Combined Effect–Cancer Type/Cell Line Maitake Beta-glucan++prostate PC-3 Maitake GD Fraction++bladder T24 Meshimakobu PL Fraction ++bladder T24 Black tea polyphenol TF(3)++lung adenocarcinoma SPC-A-1 Green tea polyphenol EGCG+lung adenocarcinoma SPC-A-1 Retinoic Acid++breast MCF-7 Vitamin D (with H2O2)+breast MCF-7 Vitamin D (with H2O2)+colon HT-29 Hyperthermia+leukemia Hyperthermia +glioblastoma Copper (CuCl / CuCl2)+leukemia HL-60 Iron (FeCl2 / FeCl3)-leukemia HL-60 IV Glutathione–pancreas xenograft Maitake and meshimakobu mushroom extracts combined with vitamin C achieved a 90% death rate of bladder cancer cells, while maitake extract with vitamin C achieved a 95% death rate of prostate cancer cells — and all with a relatively low dose of vitamin C. Black and green tea polyphenols were both helpful, but black tea polyphenol was the stand-out winner, increasing lung cancer cell death rate from 1% to over 22%. Retinoic acid (a metabolite of vitamin A) tripled the anti-proliferative effect of vitamin C on breast cancer cells (up to 75.7% inhibition). Vitamin D (calcitriol) combined with H2O2, which is released during IV vitamin C treatment, increased the breast cancer cell death rate by 78% compared to H2O2 alone. Some additives, however, actually inhibited the effectiveness of vitamin C. For example, vitamin C lost 95% of its cancer killing power when glutathione was co-injected, and the tumour shrinkage normally seen with vitamin C alone was inhibited. This remains a very active area of research, and more powerful combinations with vitamin C may yet be identified in the future. The positive combinations shown above are not yet being tested in clinical trials, but in the meantime they offer a lower risk, high potential benefit that patients and practitioners may want to consider in designing their own natural therapies. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8635156 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3082037/?tool=pubmed http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16443354 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10851301 http://www.altmedrev.com/publications/12/1/63.pdf http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15964518 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16889957 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8917417 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9252668 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21672627 About the author Ethan Evers is author of the award-winning medical thriller “The Eden Prescription,” which is based on the latest science in natural medicine for cancer. Hexane may be lurking in the soy protein found in popular food bars

(NaturalNews) Protein bars, breakfast bars, really anything in bar form just makes sense in our dine while dashing society. The question is, what is it you’re really eating? Most of these bars claim to offer healthy, wholesome energy, but what you may not have realized is that the process to create “soy protein isolate,” which is often a primary ingredient in protein bars, utilizes a toxic solvent called Hexane. Hexane is an industrial waste by-product of gasoline that, according to the EPA, can cause polyneuropathy in humans. Hexane is primarily used as a solvent to extract edible oils from seed and vegetable crops, such as soybeans, as well as a solvent for glues, varnishes and inks. Hexane is also used as a degreaser in the printing industry and as the liquid in low temperature thermometers. Sounds yummy, doesn’t it? So, if you’re wondering why you rarely see “organic” soy protein, this is one of the reasons. Additionally, soy protein typically comes from genetically modified plants. Even non-genetically modified raw materials may contain small amounts of GMO-parts, claims GMO-Compass.org, because a total separation of conventional and GM soybeans is technically impossible. In an effort to help you make smart “bar” choices, I spent a few quality hours in Whole Foods researching just which bars you may want to avoid and which ones you might want to check out. I was surprised to find that the majority of bars available do not contain soy protein. It would seem the newer brands of bars are becoming more savvy in their ingredient offerings. I was impressed enough to walk away with a few bars of my own. Here’s the lowdown. Bars With Soy Protein: Kashi Go Lean: Chocolate Peanut Butter and Chocolate Caramel contain soy protein. Odwalla: Isolated Soy Protein is the #1 ingredient in their Original Super Protein Bar and their Chocolate Peanut Butter bar. Other flavors available did not contain soy protein. Honey Stinger: Contains soy nuggets made up of soy protein isolate, rice flour, malt and salt. Luna Zone Perfect: Contains soy protein nuggets. Balance Clif bars: All bars available contained soy protein except Clif Kids bars. ThinkThin: Their soy crisps are made from soy protein isolate. Powerbar/Powerbar Pria *NuGO: Contains soy protein but claims to use organic hexane-free soy crisps. Bars Without Soy Protein: Kind: The Blueberry Pecan bar, for example, is full of fruits and nuts, non-gmo glucose, chicory fiber and 5 grams of protein. 18 Rabbits: A granola bar with such fun flavors like Cheeky Cherry Chocolate and Haute Diggity Date. They’re one of the lowest in sugar at 12 grams. Perfect Foods: One of my favorites! Look for it in the refrigerated section. Vega Whole Food Energy Bar: Is made from raw alkaline plant-based superfoods such as hemp protein. Pro Bar Superfood Slam: Is a whole food meal bar with organic acai and wheat grass, 7 grams of protein and lots of fruits like papaya and pineapple. Garden of Life: Their Organic Super Seed bar contains 18 sprouted grains including spelt and offers a probiotic blend. Thunderbird Energetica: Their Cherry Walnut Crunch is made with sweet potato, turmeric and Hawaiian black lava salt. Unique, to be sure! I found them on the bottom shelf, so you may have to search for it. Raw Organic Food Bar: One of quite a few products that are specifying non-GMO ingredients. This one also comes with quinoa. My interest is piqued. Vibrant Health: While their Green Vibrance Original Meal Bar sounds appealing with almond butter, honey, carob, cherries, raisins and sunflower seeds and dark chocolate, nowhere on the label do they describe the “Green Vibrance” ingredient. Although green in the health food industry usually brings to mind positive images, there are a lot of green things I wouldn’t want to stick in my mouth. Greens: Their Peanut Butter bar is full of super foods and exciting ingredients like organic alfalfa grass, Echinacea root extract, Siberian eleuthero root extract and Montana bee pollen but not a lot of protein. Their Daily Mocha Mantra, which contains hemp protein, was highly recommended by Eric, the Whole Foods employee, because it’s delicious and high in Omega 3′s. Larabar: Very clean with few ingredients. My favorites are Banana Bread and Apple Pie. Raw Revolution: Their Chocolate and Coconut offers organic flax seeds, 7 grams of protein from cashews, sunflower seeds and almonds. Although it seems that companies are starting to use better ingredients, it’s always important to read food labels. Just because you buy it at the health food store doesn’t mean it’s healthy.

The big fraud of green homes: they suffocate their owners with indoor air poisons
June 17, 2011 by Health Blogger
(NaturalNews) I’ve been wanting to write a story on this subject for at least two years now, but until recently there wasn’t any study to cite which would back up my position on this. But now a study has come out and it’s time to go public with information that will shock a lot of home buyers and homeowners: “Green” homes are often a complete fraud! Surprised? Here’s why this statement is true: Home builders know buyers want “green” homes. So they leap on the easiest opportunity to make a few simple modifications to the home and then slap a green label on it. Do justify this “green” label, they is seal off all the air flow between the home and the outside world, thereby creating an “air tight” home that has virtually no air leaks. Because this results in lower costs for air conditioning and heating, they call this a “green” home. And because home construction regulators are absolutely clueless about green living , this all gets the big thumbs up even though it’s not green at all! Why isn’t it really green? Because when there’s no air exchange with the outside world, the density of toxic chemicals in the air INSIDE the home skyrockets! Where a “leaky” home would vent out high concentrations of the toxic chemicals off-gassing from paint, carpets, glues, particle board furniture, varnishes and construction materials, a so-called “green” home traps all these toxic chemicals inside the home, greatly increasing the risk of cancer to its occupants. Meanwhile, even though these homes are called “green” homes, there is virtually NO reduction in the use of toxic chemicals in the construction of those homes. So all the materials used inside the home are still the same nasty toxic cancer-causing chemicals used in non-green homes: It’s the same paint, same glue, same caulking, same treated wood, same pesticide sprays around the foundation, and so on. There’s actually nothing GREEN about these homes at all! What’s a green home? To truly qualify as a “green” home, a house would need to be built with low-VOC or no-VOC paints, sustainably harvested wood from a local source, no chemical pesticide sprays on the foundation, and no glues, resins or caulking that gives off toxic chemicals. It’s a question of materials that go into the home, and today’s so-called “green” home builders pay almost no attention whatsoever to the materials. They’re all focused on the energy consumption alone. Furthermore, many people who own a “green” home still treat their lawns with chemical pesticides, completely contradicting the whole point of going green in the first place. Homeowners also typically treat indoor pest problems with chemical pesticides (“Call the pest control company!”) which ends up poisoning them even more because their “green” home is so air tight that the pesticide chemicals have no way to ventilate out. For those looking for safe indoor pest control , by the way, we’ve begun recommending a company called Always Eco (www.AlwaysEco.com/products) which offers botanically-based pest control products that use wintergreen oils and other powerful plant extracts to deal with ants, roaches, scorpions and other indoor pests. These products are all perfectly safe to use indoors — even around pets and infants. Greenwashing is alive and well in the housing industry The practicing of jumping on the “green” bandwagon to sell a home that isn’t really green is called greenwashing , and it’s happening throughout the housing industry. Truthfully, the greenest home you can buy is one that’s already built because no new materials are needed to build you a new home. Buying a used home also avoids the massive off-gassing of chemicals that usually happens in the first year after a new home is built. Many materials, in other words, are extremely toxic in the first year, but their toxicity goes down thereafter. Use indoor plants as living air cleaners No matter what kind of home you live in, the use of indoor plants can have a HUGE impact on reducing the toxicity of your indoor air. Plants are natural air filtration systems that quite literally inhale toxic chemicals and then process them into harmless elements that are then exhaled back into the room. The fast-growing jungle-type indoor plants are the best for this purpose because the greater the total leaf area of the plants, the more cleaning effect you’re getting. So don’t be fooled by the marketing of “green” homes which are really just toxic air traps for their owners. Know the difference between a truly green home versus an air-tight home. And don’t be a sucker for the new home builders who fill their homes with toxic chemicals while trying to pawn them off as somehow being green. Tests reveal that some ‘green’ products still contain petrochemicals

(NaturalNews) The burgeoning natural and organic household product sectors are solid evidence that the public is becoming increasingly conscious of the importance of avoiding synthetic chemicals. But a new study presented at the 241st National Meeting and Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS) has revealed that some “green” cleaning products still contain ingredients derived from petroleum. In an analysis of more than a dozen different commercial liquid laundry detergents, dishwashing liquids, and hand cleansers, researchers found that some of them contained as much as 57 percent carbons derived from petrochemicals. And some of these even bore labels saying “petrochemical free,” which indicates some major discrepancies within the industry. “The plant-derived carbon content of the product samples tested was largely inconsistent with some of the content claims made on packaging,” said chemist Cara A.M. Bondi who worked on the project. “For example, a liquid laundry detergent that makes the claim ‘petrochemical free’ contained only 69 percent plant-based carbon, meaning that 31 percent of the carbon in this sample is, in fact, petroleum-derived.” In hand cleansers, plant-based carbons represented anywhere from 28 to 97 percent of overall carbons, depending on the brand. Liquid laundry detergents ranged from 28 to 94 percent, and dishwashing liquids from 43 to 95 percent. Even so, all products marketed or labeled as green contained 50 percent or more plant-based carbon than non-green alternatives. Seventh Generation (SG), a highly reputable name in the green products industry, says that because there is no official standard for regulating claims made by companies marketing their products as “green,” “sustainable,” or “eco-friendly,” there is no verifiable way to determine whether or not their claims are accurate. So SG has proposed making carbon-14 dating, a technique that identifies whether or not carbon molecules are of a natural and renewable origin, the modus operandi for testing green products. The company effectively used carbon dating in its tests to determine the presence of petroleum-based carbon. SG did not reveal the names of the companies or products that contained petrochemicals, and instead chose to promote the carbon dating testing method as a way for companies to help improve their products. An SC representative stated that the findings were an “opportunity to align and move forward in a way that adds value to the consumer and to the industry.” Sources for this story include: http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2011-03/acs-sii030911.php http://news.discovery.com/human/petroleum-more-common-in-green-products-than-public-led-to-believe.html
EU successfully undermines Ireland as a GMO-free zone

(NaturalNews) Weston A Price Foundation, a nutrition education non-profit, highly recommends butter as a healthy food, particularly grass fed, raw butter, which is hard to come by in America. Because of the lack of availability of locally produced artisan butter, many of our members (and those they have influenced) buy imported butter from countries like Ireland, which have high standards for animal husbandry. My own mother has been buying Kerrygold ever since I sung the nutritional praises of grassfed butter! Until recently the Irish government was in coalition with the Green Party, and there was a policy to declare the republic of Ireland a GMO-free zone. However, in February 2011, the Irish Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith: “confirmed that Ireland has altered its voting position and will support a number of proposals from the EU Commission aimed at authorizing the placing on the market of food, food ingredients and feed containing, consisting of, or produced from genetically modified maize and cotton. Ireland will also support EU Commission proposals to introduce a tolerance for the low level presence of, as yet, unauthorized GM varieties in imports of animal feed.” I weep for Ireland, for both my husband and I are of Irish descent, and I have relatives there who are farmers. But the German side of me wants to fight for Ireland’s purity from GM crops and the pesticide pollution that inevitably follows. I have seen the lush rolling hills and small farms that will be ripped up to put in large monocropping operations. Please read Sir Julian Rose’s article, The Battle to Save the Polish Countryside , which describes what happened in the UK when they joined the EU: “…the ripping up of 35,000 miles of hedge rows; the loss of 30 percent of native farmland bird species, 98 percent of species-rich hay meadows, thousands of tons of wind- and water-eroded top-soil; and the loss from the land of around fifteen thousand farmers every year, accompanied by a rapid decline in the quality of food.” Ireland urgently needs international help to put pressure on the government to reverse this stance. Irish products such as Kerrygold butter are marketed in America and elsewhere as being natural and grass-fed. However, thanks to there being no legal requirement to declare the use of GM animal feed, it is being widely reported that an increasing percentage of animal feed in Ireland comes from GMO sources, and I think Weston Price consumers will be shocked to learn has no stance on GMOs . Until now, I’m sure it wasn’t thought necessary. What You Can Do Contact Kerrygold/The Irish Dairy Board, and the Irish Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; to let them know that the reputation of exported Irish foods is under threat by the recent pro-GM stance, in particular with the Irish-American community (which is of massive importance to the Irish economy). Let them know that they will be risking international boycott if they do not take the necessary action to keep Ireland and its food chain GMO free. Wife of jailed herbalist Greg Caton to file criminal charges against FDA for violating federal law
February 15, 2011 by Health Blogger

(NaturalNews) Back in 2009, U.S. officials illegally kidnapped Greg Caton, an herbalist who makes anti-cancer herbal remedies, from his legal residence in Ecuador and unlawfully brought him back to the U.S. to be charged for a crime he did not commit. But Greg’s wife, Cathryn, is planning to have criminal charges filed against both the FDA, an Assistant U.S. Attorney from Louisiana, and an ex-employee of the Caton’s former business, for conspiring against Greg and blatantly violating federal laws in their pursuit of him. In a saga that spans nearly a decade, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in conjunction with various other U.S. federal agencies, has been after Greg for producing and selling natural anti-cancer herbs and remedies, which severely threatens the pharmaceutical and cancer establishments. If you are unfamiliar with the Greg Caton story, you can read more about it here: http://www.naturalnews.com/027750_Greg_Caton_FDA.html You can also check out this video testimony from Cathryn herself explaining what has developed in the case since the last update: It all started in 2003 when Greg was convicted of selling “unapproved drugs,” which were really nothing more than simple anti-cancer remedies that he was making from natural herbs. And because Greg dared to make legitimate health claims about his products — which have helped countless people cure their cancer, by the way — he was forced to serve a 33-month prison term. After completing his prison term, Greg was allowed three years of supervised release, during which time he and his wife Cathryn took the opportunity to relocate their business, Alpha Omega Labs (www.AltCancer.com), to Ecuador where it is fully legal to sell herbal formulas as treatment for disease. In fact, many of the herbs Greg was using in his anti-cancer formulas come from Ecuador. Under his supervised release terms, Greg was permitted to travel back and forth freely between the U.S. and Ecuador. It was a perfect situation for the Catons to successfully and legally run their business from within the sovereign nation of Ecuador, without unlawful oppression from U.S. regulatory authorities. But everything changed in 2007 when Greg learned that U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) agent John Armand — the man who back in 2003 successfully led the charge to get Greg convicted of the federal crime of selling medicinal herbs — was again trying to entrap Greg and put him back in prison. With one and a half years left of supervised release, Greg learned that Armand was conspiring with ex-employee Crystal Leslie of the Caton’s former business, Lumen Foods, to lie about him before the courts and put him back in prison. So he decided to stay put in Ecuador where he was safe from having to undergo another legal nightmare. That’s when things began to get really ugly. According to reports, a disgruntled former employee of the Caton’s previous business conspired with Armand to trigger the chain of events that led to Greg’s illegal removal from Ecuador. Three days before Greg’s official hearing in an Ecuadorian court — a hearing that was set to prove Greg’s innocence and his legal standing as a resident of Ecuador — agents deceitfully kidnapped him and sent him back to the U.S. And in doing this, they blatantly violated not only Ecuadorian law, but also demands made by the Ecuadorian judge who was to preside over Greg’s case to set him free. And all of this was facilitated with the help of Crystal Leslie, who ended up being a perfect ally for Armand in going after Greg. After she was investigated for embezzling $20,000 from Lumen Foods, the detective who investigated the embezzlement charge could not go any further with the case because of the four-year statute of limitations from the time when the crime was committed that blocked any further action from being taken. But her coworkers indicated that she vowed to get back at Greg for this and other reasons. So Leslie contacted John Armand, whom she knew went after Greg previously for violations, and began to feed him lies about Greg’s involvement in producing “unapproved drugs” in Lake Charles, La Armand quickly jumped on-board and began harassing and threatening two other Lumen employees in an attempt to force them into false admissions against Greg. But these employees ultimately refused. Shortly thereafter in October 2007, when Greg stopped reporting for his supervised release, Greg’s name mysteriously appeared on INTERPOL, the world’s largest international police organization with 188 member countries. According to INTERPOL, the FDA has the power to arbitrarily get any individual’s name placed on the INTERPOL Fugitive “Wanted” list so that international authorities can pursue the individual for arrest. According to sources close to Cathryn, Armand pulled the necessary strings to get Greg’s name placed on INTERPOL’s fugitive “Wanted” list for “drug related crimes and fraud.” This addition gave U.S. officials the green light to head to Ecuador, hunt Greg down, and drag him back to the U.S. for violating his probation. However, Greg’s arrest was based on deceitful allegations from the FDA, which is why the Catons sought freedom in Ecuador in the first place. And ironically, the subsequent events surrounding his kidnapping were a violation of the law, since he is a permanent, legal resident of Ecuador. Cathryn Caton files request for investigation and prosecution For years, Cathryn Caton has been trying to free her husband Greg from the clutches of the FDA and other federal authorities that have done everything they can to keep him jailed. Things were bad enough when she simply had to deal with his first false arrest and imprisonment, but now she is having to contend with false allegations made by Crystal Leslie, Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Willis, and FDA Agent John Armand. According to Cathryn, each of these individuals has conspired to falsify evidence against Greg, harass and threaten witnesses to commit perjury, and lie to the courts about Greg’s alleged crimes. Cathryn has filed requests for investigation into and prosecution of these individuals to the Office of Professional Responsibility, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Office of the Inspector General. She has also requested permission to appear before a grand jury to present the evidence against the individuals for falsely targeting her husband, along with a motion to expedite that hearing. Cathryn is also working with an attorney to appeal Greg’s original prison sentence. According to legal guidelines, the district court judge that sentenced Greg to the maximum two year prison sentence made an error in failing to consult sentencing guidelines. If he had done so, Greg’s sentence would have been for far less than what it ended up being. There are many aspects to Greg’s case that require further attention and legal remedy, bus as many NaturalNews readers already know, the fight against tyranny is extremely difficult. The “big guns” have seemingly endless resources at their command to fight those who stand up to them. And without proper legal representation and the know-how to deal with the tangled bureaucratic web spun by the enemies of freedom, those pursuing justice often crumble under the weight of tireless resistance. In the case of Greg Caton, those with a vendetta against him have banded together to do whatever it takes to keep him in jail, even if it means committing felonies and lying before courts. Greg’s only real crime was violating his probation from his first arrest, and during that time FDA agent John Armand was working to have ex-employees of Greg’s former business lie against him in order to get him back into prison. So the situation is nothing short of complex, a Greg’s entire life hangs in the balance between powerful forces that will do anything to destroy him, and the testimony of his wife and a few others with little to no resources in pursuing justice. Simply put, Cathryn Caton needs your help in getting the word out about her husband’s case. She also needs the help of legal experts who can properly handle the evidence in order to pursue justice against those who have made it a mission to destroy her husband. If you or anyone you know can provide legal counsel or advice to Cathryn, please email her at cathryn@herbhealers.com. You can also reach her by phone at (305) 851-2308.
