Health Canada is already investigating the issue. It was not submitted as, nor licensed as, a product to treat arthritis, kidney stones, cancer, heavy metals detoxification, calcification and all the other diseases that Adya has been marketed to treat by Matt Bakos, the founder of Adya, Inc., as well as top Adya distributors. Aluminum sulfate , which is present in Adya Clarity at 1,090 PPM based on the MSDS provided to us by Adya. In other words, aluminum sulfate is present in a HIGHER concentration than magnesium sulfate (which is only present in 400 PPM), yet aluminum sulfate was apparently not listed as a non-medicinal ingredient in the application for license submitted to Health Canada. In other words, Adya, Inc. deceived Health Canada in order to acquire an NPN license by withholding extremely important information from Health Canada about the actual product composition, safety, and its intended use. Furthermore — and here is the most severe violation — Adya Clarity was submitted for licensing as an “iron supplement” — not as a treatment for heavy metals detoxification, removing calcification from the body, and all the other outrageous health “benefits” that have been ascribed to the product by the president of Adya, Inc., Matt Bakos. This the “recommended use” of Adya Clarity licensed by Health Canada has been grossly violated by the marketing of Adya Clarity by Matt Bakos and others. All this adds up to is a clear case of fraud. Massive violations of Health Canada rules and regulations Adya, Inc. claims their product has been approved as safe by Health Canada. Matt Bakos further insists that this licensing by Health Canada “harmonizes” his product with the USA, implying that it is recognized as a safe health supplement in the United States. (It is not.) What Adya, Inc. doesn’t tell you is that Adya Clarity is openly marketed in gross violation of Health Canada rules and regulations. Violation: Adya Clarity’s marketing never refers to Adya Clarity solely as an “iron supplement” even though that is the only use for which it has been licensed. The advertisement must clearly communicate the intended therapeutic use of the product as per its TMA. Violation: The marketing of Adya Clarity goes way outside the bounds of the licensed intended use as an iron supplement. An advertisement must not be misleading by directly or indirectly exaggerating the degree of relief/benefit to be obtained from use of the advertised product. Violation: The marketing of Adya Clarity promises wildly exaggerated claims of health benefits involving numerous diseases. 1.9 Medicinal vs. Non-medicinal Ingredients – Product benefits must not be presented in a manner that misleads the consumer as to the nature of either the medicinal (therapeutic) or non-medicinal (non-therapeutic) ingredients. No medicinal (therapeutic) benefit can be directly or indirectly attributed to a non-medicinal (non-therapeutic) ingredient Violation: The only approved ingredient by Health Canada is iron. But the marketing of Adya Clarity promotes “full spectrum minerals” and assigns almost magical healing properties to those minerals. 2.8 Exaggeration of Product Merit – An advertisement must not mislead consumers by exaggerating product merit. It is unacceptable to exaggerate the severity of the condition that can be relieved with the advertised product. It is unacceptable to use superlative terminology to exaggerate therapeutic properties of a product unless supported by its TMA. Violation: The Adya Clarity marketing videos and webinars are full of exaggerations of product merit. They are filled with superlative terminology. It is not acceptable to suggest that there is a correlation between the amount of medicinal ingredient and degree of efficacy unless this is part of the product’s TMA. Even if the NPN license were valid in the United States (which it isn’t), it was only a license for an iron supplement . In no way did it confer any applicability whatsoever for the long list of other health conditions for which Adya Clarity was aggressively promoted: rheumatoid arthritis, kidney stones, hormone regulation, colon cleansing, candida infections, and much more. Stated another way, Adya, Inc. appears to have intentionally deceived Health Canada in its application, avoiding any mention of aluminum sulfate (even though it is the second most common in the ingredients, right after iron) and misleading Health Canada about the intended health application of the product. NaturalNews has contacted Health Canada Today I spoke with officials at Health Canada about the circumstances surrounding Adya Clarity’s license. They told me they were already investigating the status of the license, but had not yet had sufficient time to make a determination or a public statement. I have no doubt that the license for Adya Clarity will be suspended or revoked once Health Canada becomes fully aware of the marketing of this product, the health claims that are being made for it, and the obvious deceptions that took place as part of the license application process. An overview of the Adya scam So what we have with Adya Clarity is a product that is: 1) Imported as battery acid. 2) Deceptively and intentionally mislabeled to avoid mentioning the concentration of aluminum sulfate. 3) Licensed in Canada only as an iron supplement, yet marketed and labeled far outside that scope. 4) Marketed internationally (including in the USA and Canada) as a cure-all treatment for arthritis, kidney stones, cancer, heavy metals detoxification, etc. On that last point, NaturalNews has numerous videos of Matt Bakos and top Adya distributors making what can only be called fraudulent health claims about Adya Clarity for the purpose of selling the product for profit. Ridiculous rebuttals that simply strain the limits of logic Some of the responses to questions about Adya Clarity raised by NaturalNews stretch the limits of logic. For example, when NaturalNews exposed the fact that Adya Clarity did not list the aluminum sulfate concentration in its product (over 1,000 PPM) even though it listed the iron sulfate concentration (2,000 PPM) and magnesium concentration (400 PPM), the absurd response from Adya president Matt Bakos was essentially that after Adya Clarity is diluted into water , the resulting concentration of aluminum sulfate is only a “trace” amount, therefore aluminum sulfate was listed under “trace minerals.” This is absurd on its face. That people actually buy into this non-logic is truly astonishing. Product labels must list the contents of what’s in the bottle , not what might result if you dilute it 1,000 times with some other liquid. This should be obvious to anyone who thinks about it. I can’t sell bottled water loaded with lead, and list lead as a “trace mineral” on the label, then claim that it’s only a trace level after you dilute it 1000 : 1. That would be absurd. Furthermore, the claim that aluminum sulfate from rocks (INORGANIC) is equivalent to the aluminum sulfate found in foods (ORGANIC) is also absurd. Aluminum sulfate from rocks is very quickly broken down in stomach acid (acidity increases aluminum solubility) to become free aluminum. Then again, Adya, Inc. insists its product is a “food,” and that is absurd on its face as well. The product is a collection of rocks dissolved into sulfuric acid. I have it on the record, with an audio recording, that Matt Bakos claims Adya Clarity is a food. Millions of dollars in profits To date, profits generated from Adya Clarity — estimated from calculations of the shipping manifests — may reach as high as $7 million . The product costs an estimated five dollars to import and bottle, and has been retailed on the internet for $149. Import documents show Adya, Inc. had imported enough raw materials to sell another several million dollars in the product in the future. Millions of dollars are at stake with Adya Clarity, which is one of the reasons why its importer and distributors have remains in such a state of aggressive denial about the potential for harm in people who use their product (especially among expectant mothers). Fact check: NaturalNews never marketed Adya Clarity There is a vicious and untrue accusation being leveled against NaturalNews, claiming that I promoted Adya Clarity. This is flatly false. Adya Clarity was, however, placed on the shelf in the NaturalNews store, which is an affiliate front-end to the Raw Food World, a large distributor of Adya Clarity in the United States. This was done outside of my awareness, and when I became aware of the safety questions surrounding Adya Clarity, I immediately requested it be removed from the store and requested the email list of store customers so that they could be contacted and offered immediate refunds. All distributors of Adya Clarity were deceived by Adya, Inc., which distributed its products with misleading labels that hid the actual aluminum content of the product and neglected to mention the sulfuric acid ingredient. This is one of the reasons why so many distributors carried the product — they trusted the label to be accurate, which it has been proven not to be. Because I never promoted Adya Clarity, there were only a relatively small number of sales through our affiliate store. The fact that our own store had inadvertently carried this product further reinforces the commitment to customer safety that it takes for someone like me to step forward and publish these stories. It would have been in my financial interests to say nothing. Instead, I stepped forward immediately and began to ask the important questions about the safety of this product. Even as I was doing what was right, other Adya distributors circled the wagons to protect their profits rather than protecting customers. The person who took the picture says, “About 30% of azaleas on the sidewalk are completely dead. Ginkgo leaves are browning.” Japan is considering the possibility of creating a back-up capital city in case they need to abandon Tokyo . A new panel from Japan’s Ministry of Land and Infrastructure will consider the possibility of moving some of Tokyo’s capital functions to another big city, like Osaka. They talk about earthquake threats, which are quite real but mention nothing about the persistent radiation driving parts of the government out of the city. The school, just over six miles from the plant, was not cleared out. Instead it was turned into a temporary evacuation center. For three nights, while hydrogen explosions at four of the reactors spewed radiation into the air many Japanese stayed in Tsushima district where the children played outside and some parents used water from a mountain stream to prepare rice. The radioactive “winds, in fact, had been blowing directly toward Tsushima but this vital information was left unpublicized by bureaucrats in Tokyo, operating in a culture that sought to avoid responsibility and, above all, criticism,” published the New York Times . Three men in charge of nuclear power safety and policy have been sacked. Trade and Industry Minister, Banri Kaieda, said the three senior officials would be held responsible for mishandling the plant and its problems. Japanese officials have withheld information and denied the facts of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster to its own citizens and they are doing that in coordination with other governments around the world who are also withholding and hiding information. Not a Good Time for Rice and other Crops Japan started trading rice futures this past Monday but suspended the market after the price of the staple grain soared on fears that radioactive contamination from the Fukushima disaster will restrict supply. Rice, Japan’s staple crop has not been spared exposure from Fukushima’s radiation. Rice planting has been banned in areas close to Fukushima and tests will be done on the crops before being sold. Questions remain over how much is being revealed to the public, as radiation seeps deeper into the food chain. Fallout from the stricken Fukushima Dai-Ichi power plant has spread to crops — We learned that after it was found that cattle had been fed cesium-tainted rice straw. The Problem that is Not Going Away Meanwhile radioactive material is still leaking from the plant nearly five months later, and last week workers at the plant discovered the hottest radioactive spot seen since the disaster began , a company spokesman said on Tuesday, July 28, 2011. The ultra-high levels of radiation were measured on the grounds of the facility, between reactors No. 1 and 2. The lethal radiation was found at the bottom of a ventilation tower. The power company immediately cordoned off the area and is currently investigating the cause of the high radiation and how it will affect the recovery work at the plant, Tsunoda said. The radiation levels — 10,000 millisieverts per hour — are high enough that a single 60-minute dose would be fatal to humans within weeks. The crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant might have suffered a second nuclear meltdown , Kyodo news agency reported. According to the study, which was conducted by nuclear safety expert Fumiya Tanabe, fuel inside one of the plant’s nuclear reactors might have breached the bottom of a pressure vessel after melting again. The current guidelines for workers’ compensation due to radiation exposure only certify leukemia among the various types of cancer that will be covered. In these cases compensation is granted only when an applicant is exposed to more than 5 millisieverts of radiation a year and develops leukemia more than one year after being exposed to nuclear radiation. The operator of Japan’s damaged nuclear power plant says the area where potentially lethal levels of radiation were detected has been sealed. Iodine Truth or Consequences Health Canada’s radiation webpage offers some striking data from the five stations monitoring specific radioactive substances. This data shows the air at the five stations contained an average of 33.3 millibecquerels of radioactive iodine per cubic metre during 30.4 days of elevated radiation. That works out to double the 16.7 millibecquerels per cubic metre of iodine-131 that would be permitted over those 30.4 days, according to the maximum limit set by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. (The commission’s ceiling is 200 millibecquerels per cubic metre of exposure in the air on a daily basis for an entire year. That equates to 16.7 millibecquerels per cubic metre over 30.4 days.) The station in Sidney, B.C. detected 19.4 millibecquerels per cubic metre of iodine-131 in the air during a 22-day-long spike in radiation. That was 61 percent higher than the maximum dose of 12.1 millibecquerels per cubic metre permitted for 22 days . Consolidation of seed companies leading to corporate domination of world food supply

(NaturalNews) Throughout the history of agriculture across the globe, farming has always been a diversified sector of the economy. Small, self-sustaining, family farms were the order of the day in most cultures. Even as small farms grew larger and more specialized over time, many of them still saved seeds or purchased them from other farmers, which kept control of farming in the hands of the people. But today everything has changed, as large chemical and agribusiness firms have acquired or merged with seed companies and other agricultural input companies. They have successfully gained a foothold on genetically-modified (GM) crops with transgenic traits. These primary factors and several others have facilitated a crescendo towards the global domination of agriculture by corporations, and thus the world’s food supply. The dismal state in which we find ourselves today did not come overnight, of course, but it did pick up rapid speed after the introduction of GM crops in the mid-1990s. Since that time, multinational corporations like Monsanto, DuPont, and Syngenta have seized a significant amount of control over the global seed industry, which has greatly limited agricultural diversity and freedom. The ability to patent both seeds and seed traits has also added injury to insult, as the ability to obtain natural or heirloom seeds is becoming increasingly difficult, and many farmers feel they have no choice but to go with the flow. Professor Philip H. Howard from the Department of Community, Agriculture, Recreation and Resource Studies at Michigan State University published a study in 2009 entitled Visualizing Consolidation in the Global Seed Industry: 1996 – 2008 that analyzes the trend in agriculture towards corporate dominance. The report, which was featured in a special issue of the journal Renewable Agriculture , provides both an extensive data analysis of agriculture’s dramatic transformation over the past several decades, as well as a highly-informative visual analysis of this truly shocking hostile takeover situation. The ‘Big Six” pharmaceutical and chemical companies have acquired, created joint ventures with hundreds of seed companies over the past 15 years In order to help assist his readers in understanding the state of the seed industry, Prof. Howard developed a very informative graphic that displays the reality of who really controls the seed industry. Monsanto, DuPont, Syngenta, Bayer, Dow, and BASF collectively own or partially-own hundreds of formerly-independent seed companies — and Monsanto, of course, dominates them all. One of the most obvious first impressions to be gathered from the diagram is Monsanto’s excessive and widespread control over the seed industry. According to Prof. Howard’s analysis, Monsanto acquired more than 50 seed companies just during the time represented by his study period, which spans the years between 1996 and 2008. Monsanto had little-to-no involvement in the seed industry prior to the mid-1980s, but since that time has been rapidly eating up seed companies and furthering its development and control over the food supply through GMOs. Today, Monsanto is the world’s largest seed company, and the transnational behemoth continues to acquire or otherwise create “partnerships” with various independent seed companies that are still in existence. Behind Monsanto, the other five of the “Big Six” that Prof. Howard illustrates — DuPont, Syngenta, Bayer, Dow, and BASF — collectively own or control a great portion of the remaining major seed companies not owned or controlled by Monsanto. And one of the biggest factors that has contributed to this dismal setup is GMOs and transgenic, patentable seed traits that are shared among the industry players. The “Big Six” each have agreements with one or more of the others; their overall success has largely hinged on GMOs and increased control of agricultural inputs The only thing worse than Monsanto and the dominance of the seed market are the cozy relationships with one another. Prof. Howard’s analysis reveals that every company in the “Big Six” has at least one mutual relationship with one another, and they together share corporate control of the seed industry. Monsanto has established cross-licensing agreements for its transgenic patents with every single other company in the mix, while Dow has agreements with all except for Bayer. And Syngenta has agreements with Dow, Monsanto, and DuPont, while BASF has agreements with Dow and Monsanto. What does this all mean? It means that the already-disturbing oligarchy that controls the seed industry is shaping up to become a total monopoly with Monsanto at the helm, of course. And as transgenic technology continues to develop, which forces farmers to either go with the flow or leave the business, there may soon be no other choices in farming besides whatever Monsanto has to offer. One would think that farmers would be more aware of this takeover and resist it. But the “Big Six” effectively fly under the radar, in most cases, by selling their seeds and chemicals through various vendors and under different names. According to Prof. Howard, this is how they effectively maintain an illusion of competition and choice in the midst of their takeover. How things got this bad and how the situation can be fixed Real competition in the seed industry has been systematically deconstructed over the years for numerous reasons. Besides blatant industry consolidation and takeover by drug and chemical companies, many farmers have simply been willing to accept the latest seed technologies, even when it has meant having to give up their seed saving freedom, and being forced to rely on the intensive use of chemicals and other synthetic interventions in order to farm. Prof. Howard explains that a concept known as the “agricultural treadmill” has been a major contributing factor in the demise of the seed industry. Because demand for food is largely inelastic, any increase in production will cause crop prices to fall. So as new farming technologies emerge, farmers that adopt them first inadvertently force all the other farmers to adopt them as well, just to maintain the same level of revenue. If they do not adopt them, or fail to keep up with other farmers on the treadmill, they will eventually fall off, or be forced out of the farming business altogether. Other factors include changes in policy that have decreased the barriers to accumulation that have prevented agricultural takeover in the past. By developing patented, transgenic traits, seed companies have been able to overcome a barrier to accumulation in agriculture. When farmers cannot save their GM seeds, the corporate owners can effectively maintain a continual, yearly cash flow just from selling seeds and their corresponding pesticides and herbicides, which in turn makes agriculture a vastly more profitable enterprise for preying corporations like Monsanto than it used to be. So what is the solution? Prof. Howard suggests improving antitrust enforcement, which will prevent the continual shift of seed company ownership and gradual accumulation of the food chain by a few large companies. Another idea is to create policies that fight against the agricultural treadmill phenomenon, and that instead promote independent, self-sustaining agricultural systems that maintain control of food with the people rather than the corporations. Perhaps the most effective suggestion — and one that we here at NaturalNews strongly advocate for as well — is to end the practice of granting patents on living organisms. By re-establishing this most-effective obstacle to accumulation, there will be no more incentive for multinational biotechnology companies like Monsanto to focus on dominating agriculture because there will be no more opportunity for the massive accumulation of wealth and capital through patented seeds.
