Research on vitamins could lead to the design of novel drugs to combat malaria

January 27, 2012 by

New research could lead to the design of more effective drugs to combat malaria. The research will enable scientists to learn more about the nature of the enzymes required for vitamin biosynthesis by the malaria causing pathogen Plasmodium. Vitamins are essential nutrients required in small amounts, the lack of which leads to deficiencies. Many pathogenic microorganisms produce vitamins, and these biosynthetic pathways may provide suitable targets for development of new drugs.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Health Ranger and the entire NaturalNews staff

(NaturalNews) Enjoy a very, very happy Thanksgiving! You’ve earned time with your family, away from the rat race of work. We all have so much to be thankful for right now, so it seems appropriate to have a holiday that celebrates it. What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? I don’t even know where to begin. At the metaphysical level, I’m thanksful for the Creator, for the existence of our universe and for the consciousness we have mysteriously attained. On a more mundane level, I’m thankful for life on our planet, the miracle of seeds, the availability of soil to grow our food, and the incredible abundance of Mother Nature. On a more personal level, I’m thankful for the amazing healing capabilities of the human body, the astonishing functioning of the human brain (and its interface to the non-physical mind ), and for the life we’re given to discover more about ourselves and the universe around us. For some reason I still don’t quite understand, God gave me the gift of communication , and I am thankful for having been granted that set of abilities which I continue to dedicate to the pursuit of truth and awakening. I’m also thankful for a great many people — NaturalNews readers, for example, who are really the cutting edge of informed, conscious thinkers who represent the future of human civilization on our planet. Certain people like Ron Paul deserve special mention for their role in defending the role of liberty in the advancement of human civilization. What are you thankful for? It’s a great day to stop and consider how fortunate we are to be here, to be conscious beings, to have free will and to still have enough freedom so that we may exercise our First Amendment rights to speak our minds. Modern society is not yet lost, and we still have opportunities to restore liberty in America and around the world. We must work together to protect those fundamental human rights and freedoms, and from that place advance our civilization beyond wars, beyond territorial conflict, beyond the domination desires of the few and into the realm of uplifting human civilization rather than trying to keep it down. I believe such a time is coming, although there will no doubt be struggles in our immediate future as difficult historical lessons are learned. But even that is, in a way, something to be thankful for because how else can an infantile society mature into adulthood if it does not see the error of its ways and the consequences of its poor choices? We are living through an extraordinary time, witnessing the reluctant advancement of our own species which I hope may one day achieve something resembling adulthood. In the mean time, each of us must do our own personal best to remember what we have to be thankful for and then use what we have available to positively influence the direction in which humanity is moving. With that said, enjoy your Thanksgiving! Get plenty of rest, and eat plenty of healthy, nutritious food, because there is much more work yet to be done on this planet. You’ll need the calories… :-)

Scientist deliberately ‘militarizes’ flu strain in deadly bioterrorism experiment

(NaturalNews) For years, health officials from around the world have been warning that the H5N1 avian flu virus, which is currently not a threat, will one day mutate into a deadly, pandemic strain. But now their predictions — or warnings, depending on how you look at it — could come true, as a European scientist has genetically altered H5N1 to effectively spread between mammals. NPR reports that Dr. Ron Fouchier from Erasmus Medical Centre in the Netherlands announced at a recent flu conference in Malta that he had discovered a way to make the avian flu virus more contagious. By deliberately modifying the virus’ genes, Dr. Fouchier was able to induce H5N1 transmission between ferrets, which represent the animal model typically used to study flu transmission between humans. So in case you missed it, a virologist has deliberately altered the deadly H5N1 avian flu virus to become more transmissible between mammals — and he has done so in the name of studying the nature of the virus and, according to NPR, “what it is capable of.” Never mind that in its native state, H5N1 is incapable of doing much at all on a global scale. Now that it has been purposely altered, the virus could eventually have devastating global consequences should it ever be released into the wild. “It’s just a bad idea for scientists to turn a lethal virus into a lethal and highly contagious virus,” said Dr. Thomas Inglesby, a bioterrorism expert and director of the Center for Biosecurity at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, concerning the experiment. “And it’s a second bad idea for them to publish how they did it so others can copy it.” Though Dr. Fouchier has not yet published his findings in a scientific journal, he very well could in the near future. In response to an NPR inquiry as to whether or not he intends to publish the study, Dr. Fouchier allegedly told NPR via email that he refused to comment until a National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity committee decides whether or not to recommend that the study be published. In defense of publishing sensitive studies of this nature, Lynn Enquist, editor in chief of the Journal of Virology , told NPR that it is necessary in order to “be prepared” for how the virus might evolve and spread. Adya Clarity caught deceiving Health Canada in licensing scam that hid aluminum content

October 31, 2011 by

(NaturalNews) NaturalNews can now report that Adya, Inc. has been caught not only misrepresenting the composition of its product on its own label, but has now been caught committing marketing fraud that violates its terms of licensing with Health Canada. Health Canada is already investigating the issue. In response to NaturalNews articles questioning the safety of Adya Clarity, the president of Adya, Inc., Matt Bakos, touted his product’s “NPN number” from Health Canada as proof that the product has been approved as safe for internal consumption. NaturalNews investigated this claim. We found license #80024735, listed on the Health Canada NPN search that you can see for yourself right here: http://www.naturalnews.com/images/HealthCanada-AdyaClarity-10312011.jpg Or you can search the license number yourself at: http://webprod3.hc-sc.gc.ca/lnhpd-bdpsnh/start-debuter.do?lang=eng As you can see from this page, Adya Clarity was licensed by Health Canada as an iron supplement . It was not submitted as, nor licensed as, a product to treat arthritis, kidney stones, cancer, heavy metals detoxification, calcification and all the other diseases that Adya has been marketed to treat by Matt Bakos, the founder of Adya, Inc., as well as top Adya distributors. In fact, Adya Clarity is imported as battery acid as is proven by the shipping manifest here: http://www.importgenius.com/importers/adya-international-inc In the “Non-Medicinal Ingredients” section of the NPN product registration, four ingredients are listed: Biotite Magnesium sulfate Potassium sulfate Sulfuric acid Do you see what’s missing from this list? Aluminum sulfate , which is present in Adya Clarity at 1,090 PPM based on the MSDS provided to us by Adya. In other words, aluminum sulfate is present in a HIGHER concentration than magnesium sulfate (which is only present in 400 PPM), yet aluminum sulfate was apparently not listed as a non-medicinal ingredient in the application for license submitted to Health Canada. In other words, Adya, Inc. deceived Health Canada in order to acquire an NPN license by withholding extremely important information from Health Canada about the actual product composition, safety, and its intended use. If all this seems familiar, it’s because the concentration of aluminum sulfate is also not listed on the Adya Clarity label — a fact we made clear in several previous articles. See the picture of the misleading Adya Clarity ingredients label yourself at: http://www.naturalnews.com/images/Adya-Clarity-Ingredients.jpg Furthermore, the high concentration of aluminum sulfate in the product makes it an immediate and urgent danger to fetal brain development and the health of expectant mothers. “If the concentration of reported aluminum sulfate in this product is accurate, then yes this is very dangerous to a pregnant mom and the fetal brain,” published author and researcher Dr. Roy Dittman told NaturalNews. “Whatever the exposure is for an adult brain, it can be a thousand times worse for the fetal brain.” A full interview with Dr. Dittman will be published here on NaturalNews later tonight or tomorrow. Misleading application to Health Canada As the Health Canada website explains: (http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/prodnatur/applications/licen-prod/index-eng.php) All natural health products (NHPs) sold in Canada require a product licence before being marketed. Obtaining a licence requires submitting to Health Canada detailed information on the product, including: medicinal ingredients source potency non-medicinal ingredients, and recommended use.” Adya, Inc. apparently did not list sulfuric acid in its application, even though it is the primary non-water ingredient in the product. It did not list aluminum sulfate, even though it is the second most common metal in the product, right after iron sulfate. Furthermore — and here is the most severe violation — Adya Clarity was submitted for licensing as an “iron supplement” — not as a treatment for heavy metals detoxification, removing calcification from the body, and all the other outrageous health “benefits” that have been ascribed to the product by the president of Adya, Inc., Matt Bakos. This the “recommended use” of Adya Clarity licensed by Health Canada has been grossly violated by the marketing of Adya Clarity by Matt Bakos and others. All this adds up to is a clear case of fraud. Massive violations of Health Canada rules and regulations Adya, Inc. claims their product has been approved as safe by Health Canada. Matt Bakos further insists that this licensing by Health Canada “harmonizes” his product with the USA, implying that it is recognized as a safe health supplement in the United States. (It is not.) What Adya, Inc. doesn’t tell you is that Adya Clarity is openly marketed in gross violation of Health Canada rules and regulations. Here are just a few of the regulations that have been widely violated by Adya Clarity marketing (http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/advert-publicit/pol/guide-ldir_consom_consum-eng.php). Note: For the following text, “TMA” refers to “Terms of Market Authorization,” meaning these are the terms under which Health Canada allows licensed NPN products to be marketed: 1.2 Product Representation – An advertisement must not be misleading as to the product category under which it received its TMA, or misrepresent its therapeutic properties. Violation: Adya Clarity is marketed way beyond merely an “iron supplement.” In fact, it is widely marketed as a “cure-all” for heavy metals poisoning, arthritis, kidney stones and much more. The advertisement must include the product’s therapeutic indication. Violation: Adya Clarity’s marketing never refers to Adya Clarity solely as an “iron supplement” even though that is the only use for which it has been licensed. The advertisement must clearly communicate the intended therapeutic use of the product as per its TMA. Violation: The marketing of Adya Clarity goes way outside the bounds of the licensed intended use as an iron supplement. An advertisement must not be misleading by directly or indirectly exaggerating the degree of relief/benefit to be obtained from use of the advertised product. Violation: The marketing of Adya Clarity promises wildly exaggerated claims of health benefits involving numerous diseases. 1.9 Medicinal vs. Non-medicinal Ingredients – Product benefits must not be presented in a manner that misleads the consumer as to the nature of either the medicinal (therapeutic) or non-medicinal (non-therapeutic) ingredients. No medicinal (therapeutic) benefit can be directly or indirectly attributed to a non-medicinal (non-therapeutic) ingredient Violation: The only approved ingredient by Health Canada is iron. But the marketing of Adya Clarity promotes “full spectrum minerals” and assigns almost magical healing properties to those minerals. 2.8 Exaggeration of Product Merit – An advertisement must not mislead consumers by exaggerating product merit. It is unacceptable to exaggerate the severity of the condition that can be relieved with the advertised product. It is unacceptable to use superlative terminology to exaggerate therapeutic properties of a product unless supported by its TMA. Violation: The Adya Clarity marketing videos and webinars are full of exaggerations of product merit. They are filled with superlative terminology. NaturalNews will soon publish videos proving this, featuring Matt Bakos himself. 2.9 Extra Strength / Maximum Strength (See also: “2.20 Power / Strength”) – An advertisement must not be misleading by suggesting that an “extra” strength product provides a greater benefit than a “regular” strength product in cases where both are indicated for the same condition. It is not acceptable to suggest that there is a correlation between the amount of medicinal ingredient and degree of efficacy unless this is part of the product’s TMA. Violation: Adya Clarity is marketed with the recommendation that people take high-dose “super shots” to experience increased health benefits. 2.21 Risk/Safety Information Communication – In order to make informed decisions about their health, consumers should be provided with fair and balanced information about the benefits and the risks associated with the use of the advertised product. Consumers should always : * Be advised to read the label and follow directions of use for the advertised product. * Where there are known risks, be provided with a general risk/cautionary statement that the advertised product may pose risks and may not be suitable for everyone (or similar wording). Violation: Adya Clarity is not labeled with warnings for expectant mothers due to aluminum consumption, nor warnings for those genetically predisposed to iron overload. Read more at: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/advert-publicit/pol/guide-ldir_consom_consum-eng.php No approval in the United States Even if the NPN license with Health Canada had been legitimately acquired, it confers no product safety approval in the United States , where Adya Clarity has been aggressively marketed and sold through wide-reaching advertising and video webinars. Even if the NPN license were valid in the United States (which it isn’t), it was only a license for an iron supplement . In no way did it confer any applicability whatsoever for the long list of other health conditions for which Adya Clarity was aggressively promoted: rheumatoid arthritis, kidney stones, hormone regulation, colon cleansing, candida infections, and much more. Stated another way, Adya, Inc. appears to have intentionally deceived Health Canada in its application, avoiding any mention of aluminum sulfate (even though it is the second most common in the ingredients, right after iron) and misleading Health Canada about the intended health application of the product. NaturalNews has contacted Health Canada Today I spoke with officials at Health Canada about the circumstances surrounding Adya Clarity’s license. They told me they were already investigating the status of the license, but had not yet had sufficient time to make a determination or a public statement. When Health Canada contacts NaturalNews with more details, we will publish those details. I have no doubt that the license for Adya Clarity will be suspended or revoked once Health Canada becomes fully aware of the marketing of this product, the health claims that are being made for it, and the obvious deceptions that took place as part of the license application process. Once Health Canada becomes aware of the aluminum content of Adya Clarity, it will be fully realized how dangerous this product may be for internal consumption, especially for expectant mothers. An overview of the Adya scam So what we have with Adya Clarity is a product that is: 1) Imported as battery acid. 2) Deceptively and intentionally mislabeled to avoid mentioning the concentration of aluminum sulfate. 3) Licensed in Canada only as an iron supplement, yet marketed and labeled far outside that scope. 4) Marketed internationally (including in the USA and Canada) as a cure-all treatment for arthritis, kidney stones, cancer, heavy metals detoxification, etc. On that last point, NaturalNews has numerous videos of Matt Bakos and top Adya distributors making what can only be called fraudulent health claims about Adya Clarity for the purpose of selling the product for profit. Ridiculous rebuttals that simply strain the limits of logic Some of the responses to questions about Adya Clarity raised by NaturalNews stretch the limits of logic. For example, when NaturalNews exposed the fact that Adya Clarity did not list the aluminum sulfate concentration in its product (over 1,000 PPM) even though it listed the iron sulfate concentration (2,000 PPM) and magnesium concentration (400 PPM), the absurd response from Adya president Matt Bakos was essentially that after Adya Clarity is diluted into water , the resulting concentration of aluminum sulfate is only a “trace” amount, therefore aluminum sulfate was listed under “trace minerals.” This is absurd on its face. That people actually buy into this non-logic is truly astonishing. Product labels must list the contents of what’s in the bottle , not what might result if you dilute it 1,000 times with some other liquid. This should be obvious to anyone who thinks about it. I can’t sell bottled water loaded with lead, and list lead as a “trace mineral” on the label, then claim that it’s only a trace level after you dilute it 1000 : 1. That would be absurd. Furthermore, the claim that aluminum sulfate from rocks (INORGANIC) is equivalent to the aluminum sulfate found in foods (ORGANIC) is also absurd. Aluminum sulfate from rocks is very quickly broken down in stomach acid (acidity increases aluminum solubility) to become free aluminum. Then again, Adya, Inc. insists its product is a “food,” and that is absurd on its face as well. The product is a collection of rocks dissolved into sulfuric acid. I have it on the record, with an audio recording, that Matt Bakos claims Adya Clarity is a food. Millions of dollars in profits To date, profits generated from Adya Clarity — estimated from calculations of the shipping manifests — may reach as high as $7 million . The product costs an estimated five dollars to import and bottle, and has been retailed on the internet for $149. Import documents show Adya, Inc. had imported enough raw materials to sell another several million dollars in the product in the future. Millions of dollars are at stake with Adya Clarity, which is one of the reasons why its importer and distributors have remains in such a state of aggressive denial about the potential for harm in people who use their product (especially among expectant mothers). Action item: Contact Health Canada now Do you live in Canada? If you bought Adya Clarity, immediately contact Health Canada to urge they review the Adya, Inc. NPN license: Here are the exact phone numbers and emails: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/compli-conform/prob-report-rapport/gui-44_consumer_complaint-plainte_consommateur-eng.php (You have to scroll down the page to see the numbers.) If you live in the United States, you may wish to contact the FTC (for the fraudulent marketing) or the FDA (for the outrageous health claims) about this product: Here is the FTC Complaint Assistant: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?lang=en Here are the FDA Consumer Complaint coordinators, state by state: http://www.fda.gov/safety/reportaproblem/consumercomplaintcoordinators/default.htm When you complain to these regulators, you may cite NaturalNews articles as sources. These regulators already know who we are, as we are usually attacking them for oppressing natural cures. But NaturalNews is not blindly loyal to any industry. We attack fraud wherever it may be found, regardless of the industry in which it is found. The natural products industry is a wonderful industry with much to offer that’s safe, effective and affordable. All the more reason we must protect our industry by exposing the fraud and thereby protecting our own integrity. There is a lot more coming soon from NaturalNews on this issue, including interviews, videos, articles, and hopefully breaking news from Health Canada this week. Stay tuned for regular updates. And remember: All those who are currently attacking NaturalNews about our warnings over Adya Clarity are the very same people who are making money from Adya! They have their financial interests to protect. I, for one, would rather just report the truth and let the cards fall where they may. Fact check: NaturalNews never marketed Adya Clarity There is a vicious and untrue accusation being leveled against NaturalNews, claiming that I promoted Adya Clarity. This is flatly false. I never promoted Adya Clarity, never endorsed it and never marketed this product in anyway. Adya Clarity was, however, placed on the shelf in the NaturalNews store, which is an affiliate front-end to the Raw Food World, a large distributor of Adya Clarity in the United States. This was done outside of my awareness, and when I became aware of the safety questions surrounding Adya Clarity, I immediately requested it be removed from the store and requested the email list of store customers so that they could be contacted and offered immediate refunds. All distributors of Adya Clarity were deceived by Adya, Inc., which distributed its products with misleading labels that hid the actual aluminum content of the product and neglected to mention the sulfuric acid ingredient. This is one of the reasons why so many distributors carried the product — they trusted the label to be accurate, which it has been proven not to be. Because I never promoted Adya Clarity, there were only a relatively small number of sales through our affiliate store. The fact that our own store had inadvertently carried this product further reinforces the commitment to customer safety that it takes for someone like me to step forward and publish these stories. It would have been in my financial interests to say nothing. Instead, I stepped forward immediately and began to ask the important questions about the safety of this product. Even as I was doing what was right, other Adya distributors circled the wagons to protect their profits rather than protecting customers. Many distributors continued to sell the product from their own stores, or even offer “2 for 1″ specials to try to clear out inventory as quickly as possible. A very small number of other distributors of Adya or “black mica extract” have now taken the product off their stores while they attempt to gather more information. That Adya promoters would attempt to attack myself and NaturalNews by falsely claiming that we promoted the product is yet another example of the dirty, slimy tactics to which this group will resort when they are cornered by the truth. Facts are stubborn things, however, and as the facts continue to emerge surrounding this product — its fraudulent marketing, its deceptive labeling, its outrageous profit margins and much more — it will become abundantly clear to the entire natural products community that Adya Clarity was a grand deception which hoodwinked many well-meaning people into selling a deceptively-labeled product that can only be called a fraud.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure openly denies science by claiming BPA exposure has no connection to breast cancer, insists chemical is safe

October 11, 2011 by

(NaturalNews) The breast cancer research group Susan G. Komen for the Cure seems more interested in keeping its chemical industry donors happy than it is in actually finding a cure for breast cancer. A recent story in Mother Jones explains that, despite the more than 130 scientific studies that demonstrate a clear connection between bisphenol-A (BPA) exposure and breast cancer, the group continues to deny any link between the two, and insists that BPA is safe. Seemingly countless studies in recent years have shown that BPA, which is found in plastics, can liners, store receipts, and other consumer products, is linked to breast cancer and other diseases. The European Union (EU), Canada, and some localized areas of the US have all banned the chemical in baby products for this very reason. Even the US President’s Cancer Panel in its 2010 report explains that BPA exposure can cause breast cancer, cause breast cancer cells to proliferate, and even make healthy cells act like cancer cells (http://www.naturalnews.com/028765_environmental_chemicals_cancer.html) But Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which collectively receives millions of dollars every year from companies like the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, General Mills, and Georgia-Pacific, all of which use BPA in their product materials, claims that BPA is safe. The group even makes the absurd statement on its website in defense of BPA that “[l]inks between plastics and cancer are often reported by the media and in email hoaxes.” Such a ridiculous statement makes a little bit more sense, though, when considering that donor Georgia-Pacific’s parent company, Koch Industries, is a major manufacturer of BPA-laden epoxy resins. Manufacturing giant 3M, another major Komen for the Cure donor, is also a member of the American Chemistry Council, a trade association that claims BPA is safe as well. In a telephone interview with Mother Jones , University of Missouri biology professor and BPA export Dr. Frederick vom Saal reportedly told the magazine that Komen for the Cure’s statements concerning BPA demonstrate “significant ignorance.” That a foundation, whose stated goal is to find a cure for cancer, would make such a claim is “astounding,” he added. Komen for the Cure continues to lie to women about the nature of breast cancer Komen for the Cure is notorious for denying a link between any chemical exposure and breast cancer, fueling instead the myth that most cases of breast cancer are inherited. In reality, less than ten percent of breast cancer cases have a hereditary link, while the more than 90 percent of other cases have a definitive environmental link — but Komen for the Cure apparently could not care less about the truth. The sad reality is that the Komen Foundation, which is supported by millions of highly-driven individuals who believe the group is working in the best interests of women, continues to expose itself as nothing but a pseudo-scientific, fraudulent research group. The organization’s continual denial of sound science in favor of its own baseless opinion on the matter shows that another agenda is at work — and it is one that, by all appearances, has no basis in actually curing or preventing breast cancer. NaturalNews pledges $15,000 to the IRT in matching fund donations to help end GMOs

October 4, 2011 by

(NaturalNews) We are on the verge of achieving a significant milestone in the fight to eradicate GMOs from the U.S. food supply. A California ballot initiative has just been launched that seeks to put a mandatory GMO labeling requirement in place (http://www.naturalnews.com/033763_GMOs_California_ballot_initiative.html). This, in turn, would result in nearly all U.S. food producers discontinuing the use of GMOs to avoid the embarrassment of having to admit GMOs on their labels. Yesterday I released a groundbreaking interview with Ronnie Cummins of the OCA who explained how this law works and why it could be a “death blow” to GMOs. Click this link to listen to that interview on SoundCloud: http://soundcloud.com/naturalnews/ronnie-cummins-gmo-labeling-ballot Today we posted an interview with Jeffrey Smith of the Institute for Responsible Technology (IRT). He explains that victory against GMOs is well within our reach, but your support is needed. The IRT is teaching people how to speak about GMOs, and it’s a very effective strategy for raising awareness. I met the CEO of Beanitos (www.Beanitos.com) at the anti-GMO rally in Austin last weekend, and it turns out that he has taken Jeffrey Smith’s course, too, and now he’s speaking out against GMOs! When people know how dangerous GMOs are to their health — and to the environment — they suddenly “get it” that removing genetically engineered ingredients from the food supply is the No.1 priority for protecting public health and the future of sustainable agriculture for our world. We can’t do this without your support Your help is greatly needed at this hour for people like Jeffrey Smith to continue his education and awareness efforts. The IRT, not surprisingly, receives no grant money from the federal government. There are no big corporate advertisers who fund the non-profit with millions of dollars. The IRT is a small but amazingly effective organization funded by people like you and mission-driven groups like NaturalNews. That’s why we’re announcing today our donation of $15,000 in matching funds to the IRT. For every dollar donated to the IRT (which is an IRS-approved non-profit) by NaturalNews readers, we will match it up to a total of $15,000. Our goal is to raise $30,000 for the IRT. It’s not a lot compared to the millions being spent by companies like Monsanto, but it’s enough to help the IRT hire one employee to help coordinate the army of volunteers who are hard at work around the country and across the globe educating people about GMOs. Click this link to make a donation to the IRT today: http://responsibletechnology.org/friends Whatever you can donate — ten dollars, twenty-five dollars or even a hundred — gets DOUBLED by NaturalNews (up to $15,000 total). This is your opportunity to help support victory against GMOs, so that when we all look back at this in five years, we can say, “I was part of that victory! I supported it!” And YES, I believe we can achieve complete victory against GMOs in the United States within the next five years . Before long, we will see one company after another announcing they are dropping GMOs and removing genetically engineered ingredients from their products. All it takes is more awareness about the public health and environmental dangers of GMOs, and that’s exactly what Jeffrey Smith and the IRT are very, very good at accomplishing. This is a time of year, by the way, that many grassroots organizations are asking for financial support from their members, but notice something interesting here: NaturalNews isn’t asking for donations to NaturalNews; we’re asking for your help in supporting the IRT! And we’re backing that up with $15,000 of our own money, too, because we believe so strongly in what the IRT is doing. This donation could never have been possible without your support of our NaturalNews Store, and your support of our sponsors whose banner ads you see on the right side of every article we post. Thank you to our sponsors for giving us the opportunity to make such an important financial contribution to the IRT. Click here to listen to my full interview with Jeffrey Smith (just posted yesterday) on SoundCloud, where he lays out the milestones of victory against GMOs. Or click here to get the MP3 file directly from NaturalNews: http://www.naturalnews.com/files/GMO-update-Jeffrey-Smith.mp3 You can also read the highlights of this interview at: http://www.naturalnews.com/033771_Jeffrey_Smith_GMOs.html Watch my recent speech on the steps of the Texas state capitol building in Austin, where I speak about protecting life from the scourge of GMOs: http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=F2537B7C2992CE627CFDE768FD192F99 With a little financial help, Jeffrey Smith and the IRT can do even more! If you agree that this is a worthy cause, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the IRT today. Jeffrey has spent many months, tirelessly traveling across India and around the globe, gathering film footage and interviews with farmers, regulators and everyday people who have amazing stories about GMOs. Financial support is needed to organize all these amazing true stories Jeffrey has gathered and help package them into videos and interviews that can be released to the public. Your donation to the IRT can help further this effort to expand awareness of GMOs to the point of critical mass — the tipping point — where the giant food producers in America abandon GMOs for good. So please, if you believe in this cause, help support the IRT with whatever donation you feel is appropriate. Click this link to donate to the IRT now: http://responsibletechnology.org/friends As the editor of NaturalNews.com, I thank you for your support. Every dollar is needed in this grassroots battle against the domineering, greed-driven corporations that are attempting to monopolize the world’s food supply. For the sake of our children — and our environment — we must resist these corporate seed tyrants and restore sanity to food production ! This effort will require commitment, and volunteers… and financial resources. People like Jeffrey Smith bring the commitment to use the financial resources that are available to their best strategic use in achieving the ultimate goal here. And what ultimate goal is that? The complete removal of genetically engineered ingredients from the global food supply . That goal is achievable! Your donation can help make it a reality. We are fighting for the future of life on our planet Thank you for helping this critically important cause in this time of great need. We are all quite literally fighting for the future of life on our planet here. We are fighting to save the seeds, to save sustainable agriculture and to protect the seeds of human life as well — the fertility of the human race. I believe there is no more important opportunity at our feet than this one. It begs for our action and demands resistance to that which is evil and destructive. If you believe in life, and light, and the protection of the very seeds which have sustained human civilization from its inception, help support this epic victory in the name of Mother Nature . Your donation can make a significant different right now, and your prayers and meditations are also welcomed as well. Let us achieve victory in the name of Mother Nature against Monsanto and the “scientific” seed destroyers of our world. Let us protect that which is sacred to life. Let us have the strength and the courage to face great evil in this time of great need, to see through the deceptions, to connect with the seeds of the Earth, to hold sacred those foods which have sustained human life on this planet, and to halt the enemies of life with the power of truth, and justice, and light. This is a moment in history in which we understand who we really are, as we realize that our actions define us . And although there are corporate betrayers who have decided to worship greed and monopolistic control in their quest for domination and power, the rest of us actually hold far greater power in the fact that we have decided to pursue truth and justice in the name of protecting life on our planet. That is a decision I made long ago, and it’s why I serve as the editor of NaturalNews. It’s why we work tirelessly, night after night, compiling interviews, articles and videos to raise awareness and teach the principles of natural healing, personal liberty and global justice. There is no greater and more humbling work than to serve in the protection of life and Mother Nature, and that’s exactly why this campaign to end GMOs means so much to me. Please join us in our efforts. Thank you for your support. – Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, editor of NaturalNews.com

Death blow to GMOs? California ballot initiative calls for mandatory labeling of all genetically engineered foods

(NaturalNews) In what is perhaps the most significant breaking news we’ve heard on the GMO front in a long time, an effort has just been announced in California that seeks to gather enough signatures to put an historical initiative on the ballot which would require the labeling of GMOs in foods. I interviewed Ronnie Cummins from the Organic Consumers Association (www.OrganicConsumers.org), who is a key leader in advocating mandatory GMO labeling. His organization is playing a significant role in helping to get this initiative on the ballot in California. This is the pathway to victory against GMOs! With this initiative on the ballot, we have a very achievable strategy to deal a death blow to GMOs and restore sanity and integrity to our seeds and food crops. Listen to the full interview with Ronnie Cummins on SoundCloud: http://snd.sc/qPBFJk Or click PLAY on the audio object here: Interview with Ronnie Cummins about GMO labeling ballot initiative in California by NaturalNews Highlights from the announcement for mandatory GMO labeling • This labeling initiative is effectively a “ban” on GMOs, because most consumers simply won’t buy genetically engineered ingredients once they know they are present in conventional foods. • GMOs are only continuing to be grown and sold today because consumers have been prevented from knowing about the GMO ingredients in their foods. • 75% of all non-organic processed foods in grocery stores today contain genetically engineered ingredients. • 90% – 95% of Americans want to know which foods contain GMOs. • The GMO industry is already gearing up to fight this ballot initiative and plans to spread lies about GMOs such as “GMOs are necessary to feed the world” or “genetically engineered crops are perfectly safe!” (The quack scientists who push GMOs are no doubt gearing up to spread their lies and disinformation as part of the effort to confuse consumers and thereby protect their GMO profits.) • This initiative, if approved, would force health food retailers like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s to reformulate their own products and inventory to remove GMOs. ” There’s gonna be panic in the boardrooms of Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s ,” says Cummins. • 700,000 signatures are needed in California to put this initiative on the ballot. This will require an army of volunteers with clipboards to gather the signatures. See below for how you can contribute to this effort. • Go to www.OrganicConsumers.org and click on the “Millions Against Monsanto” campaign page to see where you can sign up to be a volunteer. • Significant funding providers for this campaign include: Dr. Bronner’s – $1 million, Nature’s Path – $500k, Mercola.com – $500k, Organic Consumers Association – $250k and others. More announcements and interviews coming from NaturalNews Tomorrow, NaturalNews is announcing our own donation and fundraising effort to support the effort to demand mandatory GMO labeling and ultimately remove GMOs from the food supply entirely. Mother Nature’s thirst-quenching sports drink comes from twigs and leaves: Rooibos

(NaturalNews) Do you know anyone still drinking Gatorade or other popular sports drinks? If so, you may want to turn them on to Rooibos , an amazing thirst quencher (and a potent source of health protective flavonoids) made by Mother Nature. Gatorade, Powerade and other sports drinks are made with liquid sugars (glucose and fructose), artificial coloring chemicals (like red #40), citric acid and emulsifiers such as brominated vegetable oil . Anyone who knows anything about nutrition quickly realizes these are not healthful, wholesome ingredients. I’ve also released a popular video about Vitamin Water , exposing the truth that even Coca-Cola’s own attorneys admit the drink isn’t a “healthy” beverage: www.FoodInvestigations.com Rooibos , on the other hand, is made by Mother Nature. It’s the powdered extract of the Aspalatus linearis plant which grows prolifically in South Africa. Remarkably, it’s a completely caffeine-free plant that nevertheless tastes like an amazing tea beverage or even a sports drink , simply by adding it to water and mixing in your favorite sweetener such as stevia. Rooibos, by the way, synergizes extremely well with stevia. Even if you don’t normally like stevia, when mixed with Rooibos the flavor of the combination suddenly makes stevia far more delicious, and I’ve had many people rave about this simple combination (rooibos + water + stevia). Loaded with health-supportive phytonutrients In addition to the fact that Rooibos contains no caffeine, it’s loaded with phytonutrients such as Aspalathin, Quercetin and Luteolin. It also contains Orientin, Isoorientin, Vitexin, Isovitexin, Chrysoeriol, Catechin, Isoqurecetin, Hyperoside and Rutin. (You can look these up to see their supportive health benefits.) No doubt some combination of these plant-based nutrients (none of which are found in Gatorade or Powerade, by the way) explains why Rooibos is such a powerful thirst quencher. I drank it almost every day throughout the Texas drought we’ve had over the past few months, and I discovered this drink keeps you hydrated in a way that plain water simply doesn’t. No wonder so many professional football teams and sports enthusiasts are also discovering Rooibos to be a powerful, performance-enhancing sports drink. Click here to see Rooibos on sale at the NaturalNews Store Getting the good stuff Watch out for Rooibos that’s cut with fillers such as maltodextrin or lecithin. Ideally, you want to get pure Rooibos with no fillers, additives or sweeteners of any kind. Another huge issue of concern is radiation — much of the Rooibos brought into the United States is irradiated by the FDA . So getting a supply that isn’t irradiated is very, very tricky — it has even been challenging for our own supplier who recently had to reject a large batch because he tested it and found evidence that it had been irradiated. So he had to order the same batch over again, which fortunately arrived in a non-irradiated state. (Most companies don’t even bother to check if their ingredient are irradiated, by the way. Only the most quality-conscious companies even pay attention to this.) No caffeine, no chemicals Rooibos powdered extract is made from the leaves and twigs of the Rooibos plant, which is grown entirely without pesticides or synthetic chemicals of any kind. It only takes a tiny amount of Rooibos powder mixed with water to make a deep red “tea-like” beverage that quenches thirst like nothing else. You can also mix it with any kind of milk (almond milk, cow’s milk, rice milk, etc.), add a touch of sweetener, and you’ve got a delicious milk tea beverage that’s super smooth. This is a rare, exquisite herbal extract with a unique nutritional profile that just isn’t found in any other herb or superfood. Because its potent flavonoids are so important to protect, it’s packed in Miron Swiss Violet Glass which protects it from UV light. Absolutely no chemicals are used to create this extract: No solvents, nothing. In addition, nothing is added to this product. There are no fillers. It is 100% Rooibos powdered extract and nothing else, period.
