(NaturalNews) The Japanese people simply cannot catch a break, as yet another massive natural disaster has severely ravaged many portions of western and central Japan, and dumped heavy amounts of rain on areas in the northeast, including near the crippled Fukushima nuclear facility. The equivalent of a category 4 hurricane in terms of its power and wind speeds, Typhoon Roke made landfall in southern Japan on Wed., Sept. 21, where it traveled up through central Japan, including Tokyo, before weakening slightly and grazing the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. CBS News has reported that at least 200,000 Japanese households lost power after the storm, and a more recent report from the UK’s Guardian says that at least 16 people are now reported to be dead or missing. Many areas of central Japan remain flooded. Transportation in Tokyo was suspended, and several other areas experienced severe landslides. “The hotels in the vicinity are all booked up so I’m waiting for the bullet train to restart,” said 60-year-old businessman Hiromu Harada, who works in Tokyo, to the Guardian . According to Kyodo news of Japan, as many as 5,000 stranded individuals slept inside Tokyo and Shizuoka bullet train stations overnight as a result of the storm. Meanwhile, up at Fukushima, which is located roughly 100 miles-or-so north of Tokyo, officials at the crippled Fukushima nuclear facility are insisting that the storm did not cause any major damage to the plant. The only thing destroyed, they claim, was a security camera outside which just happens to be the same one that provides a continuous live feed of reactors 1 – 4, all of which either melted through or exploded back in March. According to the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) website, the live feed of the plant was suspended at 8:37 pm on Sept. 21, and was restored the next morning at 10:00 am. Solar flare could unleash nuclear holocaust across planet Earth, forcing hundreds of nuclear power plants into total meltdowns

To understand that, you have to understand how nuclear power plants function. Or, put another way, how is nuclear material prevented from “going nuclear” every single day across our planet? Every nuclear power plant operates in a near-meltdown state All nuclear power plants are operated in a near-meltdown status. They operate at very high heat, relying on nuclear fission to boil water that produces steam to drive the turbines that generate electricity. Critically, the nuclear fuel is prevented from melting down through the steady circulation of coolants which are pushed through the cooling system using very high powered electric pumps . If you stop the electric pumps, the coolant stops flowing and the fuel rods go critical (and then melt down). This is what happened in Fukushima, where the melted fuel rods dropped through the concrete floor of the containment vessels, unleashing enormous quantities of ionizing radiation into the surrounding environment. The full extent of the Fukushima contamination is not even known yet, as the facility is still emitting radiation. It’s crucial to understand that nuclear coolant pumps are usually driven by power from the electrical grid . They are not normally driven by power generated locally from the nuclear power plant itself. Instead, they’re connected to the grid. In other words, even though nuclear power plants are generating megawatts of electricity for the grid, they are also dependant on the grid to run their own coolant pumps. If the grid goes down, the coolant pumps go down, too, which is why they are quickly switched to emergency backup power — either generators or batteries . As we learned with Fukushima, the on-site batteries can only drive the coolant pumps for around eight hours. After that, the nuclear facility is dependent on diesel generators (or sometimes propane) to run the pumps that circulate the coolant which prevents the whole site from going Chernobyl. And yet, critically, this depends on something rather obvious: The delivery of diesel fuel to the site. If diesel cannot be delivered, the generators can’t be fired up and the coolant can’t be circulated. When you grasp the importance of this supply line dependency, you will instantly understand why a single solar flare could unleash a nuclear holocaust across the planet. When the generators fail and the coolant pumps stop pumping, nuclear fuel rods begin to melt through their containment rods, unleashing ungodly amounts of life-destroying radiation directly into the atmosphere. This is precisely why Japanese engineers worked so hard to reconnect the local power grid to the Fukushima facility after the tidal wave — they needed to bring power back to the generators to run the pumps that circulate the coolant. This effort failed, of course, which is why Fukushima became such a nuclear disaster and released countless becquerels of radiation into the environment (with no end in sight). Most standby power systems would continue to function after a severe solar storm, but supplying the standby power systems with adequate fuel, when the main power grids are offline for years, could become a very critical problem. And that means in order to avoid a multitude of Fukushima-style meltdowns from occurring around the world, you need to truck diesel fuel , generator parts and nuclear plant workers to every nuclear facility on the planet, ON TIME, every time, without fail, for months on end. Now remember, this must be done in the middle of the total chaos breakdown of modern civilization, where there is no power, where law enforcement and emergency services are totally overrun, where people are starving because food deliveries have been disrupted (all the vehicles got fried in the solar flare, remember?), and when looting and violent crime runs rampant in the streets of every major city in the world. Somehow, despite all this, you have to run these diesel fuel caravans to the nuclear power plants and keep the pumps running. Except there’s a problem in all this, even if you assume you can somehow work a logistical miracle and actually deliver the diesel fuel to the backup generators on time (which you probably can’t). The problem is this: Where do you get diesel fuel? Why refineries will be shut down, too From petroleum refineries. Most people don’t realize it, but petroleum refineries run on electricity . Without the power grid, the refineries don’t produce a drop of diesel. With no diesel, there are no generators keeping the coolant running in the nuclear power facilities. But wait, you say: Maybe we could just acquire diesel from all the gas stations in the world. Pump it out of the ground, load it into trucks and use that to power the generators, right? Except there are other problems here: How do you pump all that fuel without electricity? How do you acquire all the tires and spare parts needed to keep trucks running if there’s no electricity to keep the supply businesses running? How do you maintain a truck delivery infrastructure when the electrical infrastructure is totally wiped out? Some countries might be able to pull it off with some degree of success. With military escorts and the total government control over all fuel supplies, a few nations will be able to keep a few nuclear power facilities from melting down. But here’s the real issue: There are 700 nuclear power facilities in the world, remember? Let’s suppose that in the aftermath of a massive solar flare, the nations of the world are somehow able to control half of those facilities and nurse them into cold shutdown status. That still leaves roughly 350 nuclear facilities at risk. Now let’s suppose half of those are somehow luckily offline and not even functioning when the solar flare hits, so they need no special attention. This is a very optimistic assumption, but that still leaves 175 nuclear power plants where all attempts fail. Let’s be outrageously optimistic and suppose that a third of those somehow don’t go into a total meltdown by some miracle of God, or some bizarre twist in the laws of physics. FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg pushing to eliminate conflict of interest laws, allow paid drug company shills to fill advisory positions

(NaturalNews) At a time when drug industry corruption is reaching a pinnacle of public exposure, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is actually proposing eliminating one of the few pseudo-effective measures in place that restricts the agency from becoming a full-blown Big Pharma “rubber stamp” consultant. In a recent announcement, FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg stated that the agency may next year loosen certain conflict of interest restrictions that prevent scientists with financial ties to the drug industry from becoming members of FDA advisory panels. There are 45 different FDA advisory committees that, according to the FDA’s own website, are supposed to obtain “independent expert advice on scientific, technical, and policy matters.” In other words, these panels are purportedly to be composed of objective, unbiased individuals that do not have financial or other ties to the very companies about which they are advising. Makes sense, right? Well, in the eyes of Commissioner Hamburg, these common sense restrictions, which at least give the illusion that the FDA conducts honest regulatory work on behalf of the people, are unreasonable and must be eliminated. Hamburg apparently believes that drug industry-funded “scientists” are vital to the FDA’s work, having stated publicly that allowing Big Pharma shills to serve on advisory committees is essential if the agency is to get the information it needs to make decisions. “We have to be sure that FDA has subject-matter experts that we need for our important decision making,” stated Hamburg. But expecting to receive “independent expert advice” from industry-sponsored consultants posing as scientists rather than actual independent scientists, however, is the epitome of inane — and this is precisely what Hamburg is suggesting as a correct form of FDA policy. Does the FDA have the power to change its own regulatory restrictions? Aside from Hamburg’s senseless and illogical opinions about how best to obtain crucial decision-making information, the other glaring elephant in the room is the fact that the FDA can apparently change its own regulatory restrictions at will. What is the point of an agency having conflict of interest restrictions placed on it when that very same agency can simply change them when they are no longer convenient? Last time we checked, Congress was still in charge of creating and passing laws, not the FDA. But Commissioner Hamburg seems quite sure of herself, presumably because of expressed congressional support, that the FDA’s conflict of interest laws will soon be history. And it appears, based on the FDA’s released draft guidance, that the FDA is actually the one in charge of amending its own policies (http://www.fda.gov/RegulatoryInformation/Guidances/ucm126832.htm). The FDA claims that it needs to loosen or eliminate the conflict of interest policies from its advisory committee procedures because it is unable to find enough members to serve on its committees. According to a recent Bloomberg report, only 77 percent of FDA advisory committee positions were filled as of March 2011, which leaves 138 vacant positions out of 608 total. But if the FDA is having a hard time filling these positions, perhaps it would do best to begin looking for eligible candidates in other places. And Robert Weissman, president of the non-profit consumer advocacy group Public Citizen, agrees, having stated that the rules should not change because the FDA is unable, or unwilling, to find independent scientists to fill its ranks. “We need strong protection rather than less,” state Weissman, following Hamburg’s statements to his group about needed to relax or change the law. A study published back in March by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine discredits the FDA’s claim, having found that about 44 percent of cardiologists have no ties to the drug industry. Eric Campbell, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard University and one of the study’s authors, stated that the study “flat out dismisses this idea that there are no experts who don’t have relationships,” a claim being made by the FDA in support of its proposed new guidelines (http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/01/us-fda-bias-idUSTRE7703R320110801). “There are lots of people out there who are smart and who don’t have conflicts of interest,” said Sid Wolfe, also with Public Citizen. “It just takes much more work for the FDA to find them. But the result is you have much less tainting of the panel discussion.” Tell the FDA to do its job, not tailor laws to suit the agenda of special interests According to the FDA’s draft guidance, the agency published a final rule on February 2, 1998, requiring clinical investigators who submit marketing applications for drugs or medical devices to also disclose whether or not they have financial ties to the companies who make the products they reviewed. Current guidelines also limit who can serve on advisory committee positions. Both of these policies can work, at least as long as the FDA is willing to put in the work necessary to find qualified individuals who are not on the payrolls of drug and medical device companies. But the agency is demonstrating a pure unwillingness to do this, and instead is planning to cave to the drug industry and to certain lawmakers who are pushing to have the law amended instead. Though the official comment period for the FDA’s proposed new guidance for financial disclosure by clinical investigators ended on July 25, it is still crucial to contact the FDA and tell it to stop catering to special interests, and to leave be the conflict of interest policies that help preserve what little integrity remains in the agency’s advisory committee process. Obamacare ruled unconstitutional by federal appeals court

(NaturalNews) The 11th circuit appeals court ruled today that Obama’s health care mandate — which forced Americans to purchase an insurance product that many did not want or need — was unconstitutional and that Congress exceeded its constitutional authority in passing such a law. The rest of the health care reform law was not struck down, however, and indications are that the final legality of the so-called “individual mandate” will be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. The federal government’s requirement that private citizens purchase products and services from a particular industry is, on its face, blatantly unconstitutional. If this mandate holds, the federal government could invoke the same power to require all Americans to purchase an automobile from General Motors, for example, as part of an auto industry bailout mandate. Or the feds could require all parents to purchase vaccines for their children, citing public health concerns. In fact, there is no limit to the things the federal government could require Americans to purchase, including new homes to “boost the economy.” (Buy a home or go to jail!) A malicious misinterpretation of the Commerce Clause The Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution limits the power of the federal government to regulate private purchasing decisions, but the government has consistently and maliciously misinterpreted this clause to mean is has absolute power over all commerce taking place across the entire nation. It worked for a while… until all those “other people” (foreign central banks) got sick of buying U.S. debt. So lately, Ben Bernanke, Tim Geithner and other arsonists at the Federal Reserve have simply been counterfeiting new money instead: A whopping $16 trillion of it in just the last couple of years. How much money is $16 trillion? Huh? Yeah, it’s like that. But that’s not even the real theft issue here. By printing all this money and injecting it into the circulating money supply, the Fed devalues all the current dollars in circulation while eroding the value of the dollar-denominated paycheck you’re receiving, too. So all the money you worked for and saved is being stolen by the Fed through dollar devaluation coupled with the fact that you the taxpayer now OWE the Fed trillions more! (A double theft scam. They steal your money twice!) Why Washington loves to steal your money In Washington, our so-called “leaders” are not even negotiating a way to end this system. They love the fiat currency / Federal Reserve / counterfeit money machine system! It’s what keeps all politicians popular: Simply print more money, then spend it on their favorite pork projects while claiming to be bringing “jobs” to their local states and districts.
